Pension campaign? What happened?

Post by rockytony67 »

Once it goes past April it's a done deal, I know branches in London have been trying to get things going, but basically they are being told wait for the Hooper report, the union can't guarantee support in certain parts of the country  so we're stuck waiting for politicians to make there mind up, maybe we should start to :pray could be the best last hope :arrrghhh

Well I don't want to throw a bucket of water on an already damp squib, but take a look at the CWU Website and the BT Pensions Review, the terms and conditions which are very, very similar to the ones offered to us, what am I saying offered, more like forced on us and the CWU pamphlet which advocates acceptance in no uncertain terms "VOTE YES to preserve some semblance of a pension scheme" - wake up dreamers the deal is in and has always been in, Billy and Co will do nothing. I'm more concerned with our next pay rise - has anyone heard anything about that - if it's anything like the last one we'll be paying them to come to work.

Ive heard from a little Birdy that there is a split between Dave and Billy on a deal involving some sort of private investment
being allowed to come in and the government sorting out the pension hole.Ones up for it ,the other aint.

I've heard something similar. The Hooper Review is likely to recommend private investment into RM,
with the sweetener being a recommendation that the Government will agree to underwrite the pension.
Any private investment company would not want to take on the pension deficit, so that would suit RM
and big business. Some within the CWU hierarchy think this might be the best deal we can get, especially
as we might face full scale privatisation if the Conservatives win the next General Election - which is a
real possibility.

That certainly has the ring of truth about it. I would imagine Gordy is looking to get some sort of closure on the RM issue - it is worrying though that the Hooper report is being delayed - I have a feeling that I aint going to like it.

Fair enough, lets embrace this wonderful free market philosophy.
Lets revive this colleague share crap with a twist, call it say worker shares.
Now we all know RM is a very sick puppy and doomed to terminal decline :chuckle So with some cutting edge accounting methods we could probably come up with a market value of £1.
All shares to be allocated to RM employees on a pro rata basis according to weekly working hours. All directors ,executive directors(if required) senior managers to be elected by shareholder vote.
Just think, postconn dead in the water(how many regulators does Coca cola;Ford;Tesco have) DSA ,deliver it yourself :chuckle . Profits well the world is your oyster ,boost pay and pensions ,provide more full time jobs, cut working hours ,take fat dividends ,improve the service, drive any competition :left: out of the market.
The choice would be yours. You could fight for it ,but I don't think it will be offered even though it ticks all the right theoretical boxes, I Wonder why?

Thats just typical of those two. Just when we need a bit of solidarity. Perhaps it's about time the members started lobbying the reps to take up at national level, the closure of the salary scheme for OUR union bigwigs. Maybe then they might realise we're not happy.
