F**cking Lightbulbs
I covered a round this week, got rid of all 40-50 lightbulbs, not left any Saturday mailsort for the regular who returns on Monday.
My reward? Next week, cover a different round (which has been on cover duty for 3 weeks now), 70 odd lightbulbs, 3 trays of Saturday mailsort. Wonderful.
But what really gets me was reading an article about these bloody lightbulbs where a spokeswoman was quoted as saying "in the rare case they don't fit through the leterbox they will be advised" or something along those lines. I've delivered post to about 5000 different houses now, only 1 had a letterbox big enough for lightbulbs.

The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

It's all well and good sending these fecking things out but i got 3 boxes of 4. 1 from Royal Fail, 1 form the housing association and 1 from the electric company. Now the question is in a 1 bed flat how many fecking light fittings do i have????? I wont need any more bulbs till i'm in my wooden box if they last about 10 years. I really feel for those chaps who have had 100's. And there i thought you could only take a max of 9 bags in 1 delivery

Why do we have to deliver them over XMAS anyway. We need to put them on the back burner and maybe start taking them out over Jan/Feb because believe me this is getting laughable.

They are 3rd Class Mail. I know that the DOMs keep telling people that they can be left. But the fact is, that if they aren't delivered within 3 working days of arriving at your DO, they have FAILED. Would you normally put failed mail "on the back burner"?

Well you show me a postie that can carry every light bulb, every piece of mail and every packet that is going to turn up at their DO over the next 3 weeks.I am being realistic mate. I believe then that nearly every DO in the country has failed on these? Or am I missing something? Check out the previous posts on this issue, they are all saying lightbulbs have not been delivered for weeks and weeks. Deliver a box of meaningless lightbulbs or someones XMAS present? I know where my priorities lie! With the paying public.

i think they should have told them after a certain date we will not accept them for delivery as we will be going into the xmas pressure period. we will accept them back for delivery after xmas, sounds sensible to me but then i'm not a manager!

I think they should all be just carded and let everyone come to the office to collect them or a packet man should deliver them.

I know that it's impossible for you to take everything out in time. But as Linkinpark pointed out: It's management who have caused this mess, so they should be getting enough Staff in to sort it. You're only Human.greynut wrote:andy2007 wrote:Why?greynut wrote:Why do we have to deliver them over XMAS anyway. You're also right about nearly every DO in the Country failing. But the DOMs get around this, by claiming that the lightbulbs can be left. But just because they are willing to be creative with the figures. It doesn't alter the fact that they are deliberatley allowing the 3rd Class Mail to fail.
They are trying to complete big contracts, on the cheap. And they are failing miserably. But does that mean that we should descend to their level?
Or should we be trying to get enough help to do the job properly?
You tell me.....

The only reason some of you are getting upset about the lightbulbs, must surely be that your still trying to make time instead of just doing the job properly and cutting o.........failing to complete your delivery!
Any married man should forget his mistakes. There's no use in two people remembering the same thing.

Fully agree - I took the lightbulbs out when and where I could because that was what the manager told us to do. Today he got fed up and told me to bag them up and the drivers and extra casuals are going to do them - resultlinkinpark wrote:And i think WE SHOULD ALL TAKE THEM OUT EVERY DAY AND CUT OFF OR CLAIM DOCKET! Why the f*ck are you lot losing sleep over this? DO it or DONT be flexible FFS but please let your managers manage rather than do their job for them after all their wages come off your backs and you sit here whining cause you have too much mail but here you are trying to sort out a management problem! If i was your managers i would say THANK YOU cause good will is alive and kicking and thats what got us into this mess in the first place! They are mail that should go out the same as a bank statement! if you dont want the work leave it for a manager to employ someone else to do it! YOU CAN ONLY DO WHAT YOU CAN IN THE 3.5 HOURS ALLOWED FOR DELIVERY! The strange thing is most of the posters that post on this subject are normal posties on RMC but put a light bulb in front of them and they seem to go to pieces and panic! I just dont get it! DO YOUR JOB PROPERLY EASY AINT IT! FFS.

In the past bulk postings such as light bulbs, business directories etc., had a special agreement whereby a certain amount of overtime was allocated to the job and it was carried out quickly and efficiently in no time at all with vehicles in the afternoon - people didn't mind the overtime because they finished by 11.30 went home had a bite to eat relaxed for a couple of hours and then went in to do another 2,3,4 hours on overtime - when we were actually paid something for overtime.
Times now are such that an ordinary delivery isn't finished in sufficient time for the vehicles to have a dual purpose except for a limited use for the few collections still carried out.

I actually had some space in one of my 9 bags today and took out 4 boxes of them, only got about 60 left. Can't wait for the next few weeks. What should I take, little Billy's Christmas pressie of a couple of boxes of lightbulbs? Oh the worry...Never mind, I'm sure my managers will sort it out.
