Royal Mail zero emission vehicles!!

Post by NEWS »

LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Electric vehicle developer Tanfield Group PLC said it has won a contract of undisclosed value from UK state-owned postal group Royal Mail for its next generation zero emission vehicles.

Tanfield said Royal Mail has placed an order with its Smith Electric Vehicles division for one of each of its Edison and Newton delivery vehicles for trials.

The vehicles will be used in London in parcel and postal distribution operations.

Tanfield said it is increasing electric vehicle production capacity at its assembly plant in Tyne & Wear in the UK in line with a growing order book and increased interest in both Newton and Edison,

Chief executive Darren Kell said: 'The adoption of the Low Emission Zone in London and expected road pricing in 10 other urban conurbations across the UK will significantly increase the addressable market for electric vehicles.

'To this end, we are now installing additional production capability at a much faster rate than we had previously planned,' he added.

What's the point in investing in environmental friendly vehicles for Royal Mail when they allow and encourage staff to use their own cars? Surely if they were genuine about this they would be informing staff that one van carrying a driver and four postmen/women is better for the environment than one van and four cars carrying out the same task. More window dressing from Royal Mail.
