I think the dom in our office is quite popular.........yes there's plenty of moaning amongst staff but I dont believe its aimed at him. I find him approachable but rarely see him in a hands on role.

Thats how it should be in my opinion, posties are there to do the work and managers are there to manage,it's just a pity that in my office they dont do that.

He is charging around with yorks and mail for a couple of hours watching us, while some of us are sorting for longer and longer periods getting out later and later ,as the rest are taken off to prep deliveries for others on overtime or casuals ,
When he realises that all the mail is not going to be sorted that day he disappears into his office never to be seen untill the next days chaos

I dont understand why he dosn't try to keep us on side by keeping us informed and happier (not had a worktime learning session for months now , even then we had to make up the time with more sorting) as a happy workforce could be a lot more helpful ,

A prime duty for managers, full consultation with their staff and their representatives. But does it happen in your office?

:Very Happy get on with my DOm great, he tries his best to make our office a distant place to work, pity some of the staff are stuck in the past, all you hear is, it use to be great here, we use to do this and that, in other words no work and got away with it, at least our DOM pulls the slackers back in line when they need it. These are hard times but at least we have jobs, look at all the people losing their jobs and struggling, everyone should pull together and help the DOM's to help make RM sucessful if they want to keep their jobs. Sick og hearing everyone moaning and blamiong the DOM's they need to take a good look at them selves and be honest about what the problems really are.

I'm glad that you have a good DOM but from my own experience the current one in my office is a complete plank, he's been removed from 4 different offices because of his many mistakes and the fact that every office has threatened to walk out over his mis-management and in my office he is not allowed to take WTLL sessions (took one then threatened everyone with conduct code because they asked him questions he didn't know), he's also not allowed to talk to 2 members of staff because he kept threatening them (causing them to go off with stress and one was from his previous office), he's not allowed to do the wages because he refused to pay any OT to anyone even though he'd been told to pay it by his boss, also because of the way he treats people we've had another manager put into the office to try to keep him from making mistakes (but it hasn't worked), he refused to give out the last HYS because almost every comment was about him and how badly he runs the office, the current HYS seems to have been delayed to because, I'm sure it's going to be even worse for him. All in all he's the most useless managers I've ever seen in my entire working life and yet he was paid £41,000 last year (because someone overheard him talking about it to another manager). Whenever you talk to him he never looks you in the eye, he just looks everywhere else, the man needs removed from management and maybe made to be a postman to at least do something constructive.

Rant over, normal service will now be resumed :Very Happy

Ah, first post and backing a DOM with poor spelling. Liner alert methinks.
To paraphrase, it's the the DOM's that "need to take a good look at them selves and be honest about what the problems really are" rather than submitting to :lfo and :cfo . Working with a DOM who leaves his office for a minute to look at the chaos happening on his watch, only to retreat back there and issue impossible orders to line managers, he certainly takes the "distant place to work" approach.
