Facebook message about night out 'betrays' man who phoned in sick for work.

A supermarket worker who phoned in sick but then went out and posted pictures on Facebook is facing disciplinary action.

Shelf-stacker Tom Stones was "shopped" to managers after posting that he had enjoyed "a good night".

Mr Stones, who earns £6.20 an hour, called in sick for a 6pm-10pm shift saying he felt ill, but later said on Facebook: "Tom had a good night xxx."

The 22-year-old, who works at the Tesco store in Brockworth, Gloucester, has now been summoned to disciplinary hearing.

He told The Sun: "I think it's a bit much – a step too far. I wasn't out when I should have been working – I didn't go out until 11pm. I phoned in sick but later started to feel better and went up town."

A spokesman for Tesco denied using Facebook to spy on staff and said: "Someone pointed this out to the management."

He is the latest employee to discover the perils of publishing personal information on the internet. Last month, Virgin Atlantic sacked 13 cabin crew members who used Facebook to criticise the airline's safety standards and call passengers "chavs".

A group of British Airways staff said their passengers were "smelly and annoying" on a Facebook page created by London Gatwick Ground Staff. They also described the airline's Heathrow Terminal 5 as a disaster.

Last month an Australian call centre worker, Kyle Doyle, phoned in sick after a night out and treated himself to a day in bed. He was caught by his managers after updating his Facebook status to boast of his day off.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

heard of someone getting sacked for slagging off his job/the firm on Friends United - doesn't surprise me in the least that people have been sacked after going on Facebook - Hellmail wanted people sacked for posting on here - RM did systematically target Bristol in a union bashing exercise but true to form , botched it and laid things on too thick :Very Happy

I find that if you don't post anything stupid like 'I phoned in sick and then I had a great night out' or 'I had a pee in my managers Bovril' then you should be OK.

Now, where did I put that video of me practicing with my light sabre :hmmmm :nervous

I remember a Tribunal Case in The Daily Star - apparently someone had gone on one of those swinger's sites - as you do ! - and found his Lino or DUM on it :Very Happy  - so he arranged a rendezvous - and put a notice up saying - If you want a good laugh - meet at the Slappers Arms or whatever it was at 2 on Saturday .

The Lino or DUM walked into the pub with his Missus done up like a dog's dinner only to find half the Post Office in the Pub :left: . The Tribunal ruled that he'd put nothing specific on that notice board and the manager had left himself open to ridicule as it was all in the public domain - therefore it was unfair dismissal

I'd like to make it clear that I don't go to those swinger's site, I go to the more up-market ones who wouldn't have anything to do with RM management :nervous
