Managers editing SSOW

Post by andy2007 »

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is it possible for Managers to edit your SSOW, without your knowledge?

The reason I'm asking. Is because this is exactly what has recently happened to us. Our H&S Reps only found out about it, when there was an incident, and my Collegue fell foul of the new bit! :mad

I'd rather not go into too much detail here (unless you really want me to), because our area H&S Rep is currently dealing with the situation. And I'd rather not risk stirring up trouble. I'm just bringing this to your attention, so that you can ensure that the same thing hasn't happened where you are. And can hopefully take steps to prevent it happening in the future.

Apart from anything else: What's the point in adding new bits to the SSOW, if you don't tell anyone? :hmmmm
You can't follow rules, if you don't know they exist, can you?

Hopefully andy2007 your Area Health & Safety Rep will have immediately notified our National Health, Safety & Environment Officer over this issue and awaits his guidance. As for managers editing without your knowledge :hmmmm

Obliged if you would PM me though on just what exactly is going on, just in case they try it on elsewhere.

Could one of you also tell us what 'SSOW' is as well, for future reference.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Theres a thread in itself. Lots of cosy little acronyms that big up the posters but nicely exclude the uninitiated. Why not try to welcome all comers? How many times has the question been asked on here,"whats LTB's?"
Just a thought if folks would like to be inclusive.
Perhaps we could add a glossary section.
Might give Teebs something to do when he's at a loose end :chuckle :chuckle

Oh right,cheers.
With regards to SSOW or Safe System of Work found the following snippet which may prove useful to all CWU health and safety reps (knowing where to find things). :wave

The health and safety of our people and our customers is an absolute priority and a prime concern. We have made great progress in safety whilst undergoing the significant business restructuring that’s come from deregulation. For people who have access, the safety website on the CSR Intranet is our new communication tool which contains risk assessment, safe systems and process guidance for all safety issues. If you’re not sure what you want, send your safety query to the CSR contact centre:
