4 1/2 hour delivery !

I think the 4.30 hour delivery is more feasible with a four day working week.

Also, maybe RM will offer us 35 hour working week with same pay, but with the condition that we absorb D2Ds into workload.
I would prefer that, to a 4 1/2 hour del span.

I imagine many offices (as with ours) run with insufficient prep time as of now, RM know this and so does our union.

If the sequencing machines relieves each delivery by ‘X’ amount (and we are only talking about 15-20minutes) then this will then allow them to prep at a ‘normal’ rate (or atleast assist towards them doing so) instead of having to come in early, rush around and cut every corner going just to get out on time.

So we would still lose no time or pay etc;

There is a better way forward for all we could alway's have two delivery's like the old day's split with a return to office to take one's break and reload with mail and stop all this running around to finnish five minute's early!.

Wasn't too bad in our office Postman. Did a heavy 1st delivery & a drivel for 2nd. It cleared the late mail and helped us achieve targets too. Instead of investing millions in extra vans they would be able to clean the dust off of the bicycles and get them out again. Also if the 1st delivery was a Mount Everest then we would have more time to complete the delivery and they would have more time to try and get a bod to cover the 2nd on OT

2 deliverys spread the load. Rural duties never did a 2nd delivery but town duties always did. There have been two systems whilst I have been a delivery postman - in the first instance only 1st class and due mail was sorted for delivery, the second delivery consisted of late 1st class, 2nd class and anything else. The 1st delivery was completed and back to the depot by 0930 - 15 minutes break, back on IPS and back out on a second delivery, you delivered til it was done and had the rest of your break then.

The second system was everything went on the 1st delivery, only due mail on the second delivery - mail was arriving all the time of course. This worked better because the second delivery on the 1st system was very often bigger than the first.

You don't actually need more staff you just need to organise a bit better. It would of course mean all duties were full time, everyone went on IPS, the mail was brought to the DO throughout the night and sorted - it isnle.'t going to happen of course but it isn't impossible.

Or split the new bigger walk's in two half's so only once over the ground as it were called at the time! But with a return to the office for a toilet break and something to eat and a rest and then go out and finnish the other half of the walk.

Will some fool in a nice, warm, cosy office, tell us all that maybe we will have to increase the deliveries to 5/6 hours?
Where will it stop?
RM will try to make as many cuts as they can and do you think they will worry about the health of the workforce in making these changes?
Sick leave will go through the roof. As Linkinpark stated how many of us go home 'shattered' after a 3.5 hr delivery just now?
The 'Speed Mechands' of today ;will come unstuck in future years. We all used to cut corners when it suited us. But, can you imagine what effect running around a 4.5 hr delivery will have upon their health in 10/20 years?
When I joined RM [over 27 years ago]my 1st Delivery lasted 1/1.5 hours and 2nd Delivery was 30mins to 1hr. This will never happen again; Quality of Service is being ignored by people who wish to change this once Great Institution into a farce.
How many calls will be in a longer Delivery 800, 1000, more?
We are not robots. Prep -time; preparing d2ds;all take up time and cause stress. This added increase in delivery spans will add to the pressure and do you honestly think RM management will not H & B more staff?

Mail has been going up for years, certainly for as long as I have been in the job. Yet RM keep telling us they make losses all the time!
You tell me that Speed is not a problem,
Do you think someone who is 20 years old will go at the same pace as someone who is 50 years old?
No!

'So and so can complete your Wallk in time/under 3.5 hrs; why can't you?'
Don't tell me you have never heard a manager say this.
The style of management has changed to a more aggressive approach, with bullying and harassment now the norm.
Tell me do you foresee no problems as regards health on deliveries of 4.5 hr or whatever in the near future?
I have no problem working an 8 hour day, I do that now.
But, how many more changes are RM going to make to our working day [hours], delivery spans or methods [summer/phase 3].

you read stressed BIG AL , Once the new sorting machines come in, we will not be needed to do our 1 hours sorting, however the missort time will still be in place, so what will we be doing for that extra hour....delivering thats what
