He is right 7 days Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat and yes Sunday and you will need a Docs cert.
TBH if you go in on Saturday even if not 100% if might be better as it will be only 5 days then. However, if you have a sick note there should be no problem.

I thought you can 'self-cert' a period of sickness of up to and including 7 days ?
It's only if you are off more than 7 days that you need a doctor's note ??
Also, if jonny2bad phones up Saturday afternoon and says he will be resuming on Monday, they can't count the Sunday. He would have declared himself fit for duty, and it's only because he is scheduled for a rest day on Sunday that he couldn't go back on Sunday
