Royal Mail is looking to recruit more than 350 people in Northampton to work the busy Christmas period.
Despite high unemployment levels in the UK, demand for temporary staff remains in certain sectors and Royal Mail needs extra staff across its distribution and warehouse activities to cover the festive period.
The positions range from sorters, teamleaders and general warehouse staff and Manpower, the employment services firm, is currently recruiting for the temporary Christmas positions.
Spokesman, Paul Robbins, said: "With the current depressed economic climate and rising utility bills, the chance to earn some extra money in the run-up to Christmas will come as a welcome opportunity for many in Northampton."
The town's mail centre delivers an average of 5.4 million letters a week, but in December, an extra 3.3 million letters per week are posted.
Last posting date for second class letters is Thursday, December 18 and for first class post it is Saturday, December 20.
Letters to Santa in Lapland should have a stamp on them and need to be posted by December 11, while European mail needs to be posted by Friday, December 12.
Post offices in Northamptonshire will all be closing at noon on Christmas Eve and will remain shut until Saturday, December 27. They will close at 4pm on New Year's Eve and then re-open on Friday, January 2.
