Firms delivery question to me today

Post by Beforenineoclockgoodone »

When i arrived at this company today being a firms delivery Postie, I was asked, "is there any chance you can get here earlier on a Wednesday as I have to do the wages"? I said no because I have a set rout & as long as I have delivered before 2 o'clock (it was 12.30) I have done my job. I then got the old, "well the guy who does it when your off can get here early". How do you answer that one? I have been doing the duty for over 10 years & do it the most efficient way by going round once, ie dropping second pouches, packets & parcels whilst dropping off firms mail as I go. This saves fuel & messing about.

"I cannot answer that as I don't know how he delivers the mail (they could just be trying it on). If you have a complaint then please ring Customer Services on blah blah. Alternatively you could pay for a 9am delivery. I believe it's currently £7 a day"
None of this is our fault. Remember, Royal Mail asked their customer what time they'd like their mail. The same ones funnily enough who wanted it before 9:30am now have died. The new, improved customer wants it before 10pm and as long as its their mail and not their next door neighbours then they now don't care! Yeah right...

WHO these mystery customers are I don't know. They never asked me and I'm one of them as well as an employee.

Tell him about the "Call and Collect" service that RM offer. He can collect his own mail pre 9 o'clock but tell him, with the onset of winter he will have to collect whatever the weather.

I can't find 'call and collect' on the Royal Mail's website.
Have you got any details of it ?

So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

You are not required to answer that one , they are making a statement without proof. you have answered their question of an earlier delivery. Alternatively you could relpy in a similar vein by stating that you get complaints from people. About what you haven't specified, about whom if applicable you also haven't specified, just that you get complaints.
Confused... You won't be, after the next episode of. SOAP

If the delivery isn't prepped by 10 say, what is the point of a firm paying for a 9am delivery? They will only be getting half of thier mail?

Is is made clear to any firm paying for early collect/delivery or early extraction that they are only paying to get any mail that is available at that time (which may mean none at all). They can then choose to have the rest of the mail either delivered at the normal time or the next day.

Our callers office opens at 7 and there are a number of firms who collect their mail before 8.30 and make no payment at all - obviously we have been misguided and they have been getting a freebie.
