Kill off stickers

Post by Pmn »

This is one of those small gaps in my knowledge where it has almost gone too far now for me to ask someone and not feel like a right plank! :Very Happy

So can anyone tell me -

When do you tick 'not called for'? I had a return to sender letter today with this ticked. Is it a case of someone not collecting the letter/packet from the Callers Office, after a certain amount of time?

Also, 'no such address in' - I've always just ticked this when it was the case but I've thought of late this doesn't seem right, as it would just have a box like the others? I've never had any complaints on this front but just wondered if there is any information you're actually meant to put here, to help out the good folk in Belfast?

The No such address - you add the first part of the postcode - or at least I do.

On the "Not called for" you have it spot on.

1 week for recordeds and 3 week for the rest.

It's the bottom box, left column. Address Inaccessible.
Just spilt stain-remover down my shirt. Now how do I get that out?

Kill off stickers

I'm surprised that there aren't legions of members from the London area asking what "kill off stickers" are because whenever I handle mail that has been RTS'ed from a London address they are as near as dammit never properly killed. Am I the only one that notcies this?

What are kill off stickers?

Post by baldrick »

The problem in London (among many) is the large numbers of transient tenants and firms who open/close/move.
Which means we probably have a bigger proportion of returned mail than other parts of the country.
At my MC for many years we were told not to return returned mail to DOs for kill off stickers as it was a waste of
time, just to return them to any address on the envelope or to Belfast DLO if there was no address.
One PT OPG even told me we were supposed to return them to the office covering the postcode shown on the meter
franking if there was no return address.
That is another problem as we have a lot of staff who have recieved little or no training, and Agency (casual) staff
who recieve even less training.

One rule for one.....

Thats not good enough I'm afraid, either everyone officially kills off mail or no-one does. Dare I say it but the London area could well be so sloppy in their work that they're the ones bringing the better performing parts of the country down.

Baldrick - this is a generalisation and not aimed at you :)
