A manager at my office says that a NEW regional manager appears to be looking to get rid of a manager (any one) to show his strength and that this understandably has led to them being worried about their jobs. It did make me wonder if a lot of the madness they are coming out with is because of the pressure they are under. Am I soft or should we be more sympathetic.

We have been living, working and coping with that sort of attitude to us for years now. Did we get any sympathy? When they have the balls to turn round to those above them and tell the truth instead of being yes men they will suddenly realise that they have the power to make the job better and safer for all of us. Until that happens they can squirm while their overlord decides which one to kick out and needn't expect sympathy from anyone below them.

Let the CMA deal with CMA issues we have all got enough on our plate with the CWU. No doubt all the pressure is systemic from the top downwards. Wouldn't say your soft maybe compassionate but I ask myself where was their compassion when we were manning the picket lines. No sympathy from me.

There are too many managers anyway, the offices would save £1000's if they got shot of most of them! No sympathy from me :Boo hoo! :Boo hoo!
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

the scalp mentality - empire building or trying to impress the Empire Builders - not often sympathy - what goes around , comes around - if it as bad as they say - why not take that scalp hunter to Tribunal then ? and give him a taste of his own medicine ? - problem is that RM would close ranks to defend that Regional manager and deny that unwritten agenda in a IT :no no - one CWU Barrister cross - examined a Area Manager for 2 hours to get her to admit that she was a sacking manager :hmmmm :hmmmm

poor style - :lfo "s fear , uncertainty & doubt -a very 80's macho style - a recipe for B&H - what do you expect from boardroom bullies ?

Whether its a Manager a Rep or a Postie, that kind of mentality is one of the reasons why we are in the mess we are. If someone deserves to sacked, then, with the agreed guidelines they should be. But to go looking for a scalp just to look strong is bullying and in my opinion is nothing but a weak and ultimately self defeating. If its true would a manager reporting to him tell the truth or try to hide bad news, would he have respect from his subordinates or would they just be fearful of him. An organisation run on fear, intimidation, bullying and using people as an example is ultimately doomed to failure, just ask the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei or the Staatssicherheit.

It's called Karma...
The philosophical explanation of karma can differ slightly between traditions, but the general concept is basically the same. Through the law of karma, the effects of all deeds actively create past, present, and future experiences, thus making one responsible for one's own life, and the pain and joy it brings to him/her and others. The results or 'fruits' of actions are called karma-phala. What one does in the past affects one's future: performing good deeds will result in good effects and performing bad deeds will result in bad effects.
One can only wonder what :cfo :mfo and :lfo and a certain RM regional manager have waiting in store for them.

If Royal mail get their wish, and we lose the saturday delivery,we won't just lose cover men,but cover
managers as well!
should we be sympathetic??
in my opinion, largely what goes around comes around,by that i mean everyone should play for their place.
and if we've been deemed to of 'had it easy',then it's only been 'as directed'
i agree with some of the previous statements, the fact they've received very litlle training and really should
not be in that position,is no excuse to intimidate and harass an individual.

Guys lets be honest here, all managers are not twats or dickheads, our manager is a decent guy who on numerous occassions has went the extra mile to save some ones job or given posties the benefit of the doubt when it was needed. If we want a favour he is always willing to help out. This does not make him a softie he is anything but.

He knows that he can depend on us when he needs a dig out. He shares the pressure he is under with us and nothing is hidden and he is completely open. I tell you if we were treated the way he is treated by his manager we would be on the street. He constantly opposes cutbacks and savings and is told he is weak or inefficient which he is not. He is just a common sense manager who unfortunately has to toe the party line or else.

Some of them are diamonds if you have one then try and keep him. I'll will say one thing if I had a boss like that I would also go the extra mile for him that you say he goes for you. However RMG with their autocratic approach to everything and a box for everyone, can't compute this and to them therefore it does not exist.

Weird thing is most postie would be more flexible for a guy like this, than what they are trying to impose on us now. :cuppa :evil/mad

I had a boss like that when I was on Night shift, we scratched each others back, him being TA makes a difference IMO, I think thats the thing Old school way of doing things was the best way of doing it and many did come out of the Army or from the Shop floor, with their "can do" approach adapt, innovate and overcome.

That seemed to have been lost, some of the graduates haven't got a clue and rub people up the wrong way.

Talk about stating the bleedin obvious, some Dims are nice ,some ain't,bit like people in general really;
But it don't matter if your Dim is Mother Theresa or the Devil incarnate, none of this s**t we are being subjected to is personal,it's about corporate culture, politics and the meat in the grinder. Stick to the rules you've fought for and don't help the profit machine paper over the cracks by working your day off or doing cheap labour overtime
