If u leave Royal Mail, their reference consists of confirming that you were employed from start day x to finish day y no more no less.cappamore wrote:Statutory notice is one week for each complete year's service between 2 and 12 years. Check your contract of employment. it'll probably reflect that. You'll usually be asked to take any outstanding annual leave during your notice period.
You don't have to abide by this though. If you leave without seeing out all of your notice there's not much RM can do; other than sue you! and to do that they'd have to prove that it cost them more to cover your job than it would to have paid you had you attended for work during your notice period. Not recommended though as RM might get nasty and not provide a reference. You do not have any statutory entitlement to a reference. in fact no employee has.

Re: NOTICE
And in the climate of job cuts it would be hard to prove a cost in replacing someone over and above what it would cost anyway had the employee worked their notice. It's more likely to save money since they've managed to achieve a job cut through natural wastage instead of VR.cappamore wrote:Statutory notice is one week for each complete year's service between 2 and 12 years. That's absolutely right.........................................and what mine says! However, like I said, an employer does not havta give you a referenceevilc wrote:If u leave Royal Mail, their reference consists of confirming that you were employed from start day x to finish day y no more no less.cappamore wrote:Statutory notice is one week for each complete year's service between 2 and 12 years. ive just phoned up the 0845 number on the back of my payslip and they have just told me bec im on weekly pay i only need to give one weeks notice, and i can freeze or transfer my pension and and my holiday entitlement will be worked out over my weeks notice ,so if ive had too many days off they will deduct it from my last weeks pay etc

It's cheaper to phone the 0114 number, rather than the 0845 number.mrbond wrote:ive just phoned up the 0845 number on the back of my payslip and they have just told me bec im on weekly pay i only need to give one weeks notice, and i can freeze or transfer my pension and and my holiday entitlement will be worked out over my weeks notice ,so if ive had too many days off they will deduct it from my last weeks pay etc

NOTICE
Under English common law if you are wekly paid then yes, a week's notice suffices but I'm sure that isn't what your contract says. Is the 0845 number for those eejits at Pond Street, Sheffield? You wouldn't believe how inefficient they can be.
Tommo, you sure about badmouthing Bond? Remember............................................he has a licence to kill

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
