" I once went into a watch menders, slapped me knob on the desk and said can you put a couple of hands on that?"

Yes very interesting...
"Can you please explain to me why I have had to wait 48 hours to
collect a package from your Brunswick Road Edinburgh delivery
office when I was not at home on the day of delivery? What happens
to the packages in this 48 hour period?
What is the range of minimum times that Royal Mail sets for
collection of parcels at its delivery offices?
What factors allow the time scales to be adjusted and who decides
what times should be written on the red cards which are left at the
address?"
I certainly wouldn't be happy waiting that long before going to collect a packet, especially if I'd paid for next day delivery.

I use my common sense, on Friday I put a waiting time of 1 hour on a 739 because I knew the package would be in the lock up by then. No one has ever told me to put a minimum time on a 739.

All very well putting 1 hour knowing you would be back in the office then, but what about all the other packets turning up at the same time that have to be put away by the Callers staff, it will take longer than an hour to put everything away in between dealing with customers. 24 hours at my office, recently this was temporarily up'd to 48 hours due the sheer amount of packets coming back.yokel wrote:I use my common sense, on Friday I put a waiting time of 1 hour on a 739 because I knew the package would be in the lock up by then. Perhaps you have never worked in the callers office as I would go ape if I saw a F739 with 1 hour. Unless you physically take it to the callers/collection office you can not guarantee if it will be there at that time. It could be delayed for all manner of reasons. Also for recordeds, Internationals, specials and in some places ordinary packets have to be booked in to confirm they have received them and if required a trace can be kept.
Also in an ordinary day you could probably expect to complete your delivery within the hour you stated on the card, but if you ever had an incident or an accident which delayed you, you bet 1p to a £1 that customer will turn up at the collection point before you do.
I have dealt with customers who cant accept that a packet is not in the callers office when a postie has put a certain amount of time down on the form, and its not a pleasant experience.
Please everyone to help your colleagues in the callers room, who have a lot more stressful job than most, and put a minimum of 24 hours on the card, or like at our place 48 hours.

In my DO we put our own returned packets into the callers office into there relevent duties, so we put on the cards how long we expect to be out (plus a little bit extra). So mine start at 7 hours and work back from that.

Points taken but some of you must work in much bigger offices than me, I return packets direct to the collection office and they are on the shelf awaiting collection within minutes of my return excepts priorities which go via the lock up and are there a few minutes later. Some of my packets go direct to a post office for collection and are available immediately I hand them over. Things are different here in Yokel land, 48 hours seems incredible to me.

even if the item is back next day,it has to be put away.doesnt sound much but on our callers you can stat with 6 yorkies of P739 packets to put away
so if the person shows up at 7am(opening time) you may not have all the previous days packets put away

There's something wrong somewhere (what's new?) if a customer can't have his packet for 48 hrs after an attempted delivery.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

in our offices the DO is too far for the posties to get back while its open, plus the are alloted 15 minutes pouching off time in their delivery.it would need upped to an hour for some duties.
so these items need puched off. they should come back next day(and often do) but can take the 2 days expecially with posties getting to the PO's later
