A HIGH Wycombe postman is preparing to shave his head to raise money for this year's poppy appeal.
Matt Buckridge will go from having a two-foot-long mane to a grade one shave when he goes for the chop tomorrow.
And in keeping with remembrance day, Matt, 34, is booked in for his fundraising haircut at Cutlers in High Wycombe at 11am.
The dad-of-one from Crendon Street said: “Over the past couple of years I have been reading so much about how the veterans have lost so much and with the Ghurkas and things like that, it struck home that actually maybe I could make some money for a worthwhile cause.”
So far Matt has raised around £800 from donations from friends, family and work colleagues - well over what he was expecting to make.
Matt, who has always supported the poppy appeal, said: “I have totally exceeded what I thought I'd raise, I was looking at about £500.”
All the proceeds from Matt's haircut will be donated to High Wycombe Royal British Legion.
He said he could not remember how long he has been growing his locks, but said his eight-year-old son, Joseph cannot remember him ever having short hair.
Matt added: “He's quite sceptical about how it's going to turn out, but he's donated his pocket money.
“It makes no odds to me but other people are going to be quite taken aback.”
