This is new, where did you hear this.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I dont think it should be put on the site. It was a personal matter which involved his family. Would you want anything you did protecting your family displayed. In my opinion if its put on this site it says more about those who put it on then it does about Dave. The fact is that if and when the details comeout i think your find anyone of us would have done the same in this case. The only people who will exploit this will be those who want to use it to attack the union and off course Royal Mail. This site should not help them.

Not neccessarily.
Something like this, will do the rounds of the Grapevine in no time. At least if the article is reproduced here, it will give us the opportunity to get our facts strait. There will of course, be those who will use it to attack him. But they'll do that with the rumours anyway. So what is there to loose, by putting it on here?dingo wrote:I dont think it should be put on the site. It was a personal matter which involved his family. It's already been in a national newspaper so I think that it's gone beyond a private matter. If he thumped someone in self defence or in the defence of a family member then that's OK and the police will sort it out but if he just got drunk and hit someone because he was mouthing off at him then he deserves anything he gets.dingo wrote:I dont think it should be put on the site. But I think we should wait until full details come out before we start either condoning or condemning him.

Seems like a matter that might be in the interests of the public, but not in the public interest which is why its only a tiny column and in a tabloid. Not newsworthy enough for anyone else. Hardly any wonder. Its also a national gossip column, not a newspaper. You'd hardly read it for news now would you.

I would fully agree if Dave was not the DGSP when you accept a high profile job like this nothing is personal and if you think members haven't read the article or that Royal Mail doesn’t have their media people reading every article then you are living in cloud cuckoo land. I have no doubt Dave had his reasons for what happened and I would not throw stones because we all live in glasshouses, but if he was still employed like the rest of us by Royal Mail he would now be facing dismissal for bringing the company in to disreputedingo wrote:I dont think it should be put on the site. Members are down on the Union at the moment and are asking questions, to just try and brush this under the carpet would make us look two faced and untrustworthy and no better than management to face up to these thing and tell the truth will show we have better principles than management and that we give everybody the benefit of the doubt rather than finding them guilty on the slightest whim.
There is no real way of getting the truth or squashing rumours other than sites like this therefore that's the reason it's on here and perhaps we will get the truth from those in the know?.

Perhaps, but how ironic that the only people discussing what is a minor press article and one fron the Sunday Mirror at that, and possibly untrue or misreported, invited Billy Hayes to take a peek at the forums not so long ago. I would have thought, or at least hoped, that of all the places the CWU could expect to be supported, is here, no matter what. I can't find a reference to this anywhere on the net and I agree with earlier comment, extending this says too much and denegrates all of us. Nothing like advertising that a union leader is a loose cannon eh. Great move.
