Post Office delaying delivery of mail

THOUSANDS of people could be receiving their post late because of Royal Mail red tape.

A postman has revealed how staff at the organisation are not allowed to leave the office before 10am to make sure they finish their rounds at the same time.

The employee, who did not want to be named for fear of losing his job, said he and his colleagues are often left sitting around for up to an hour after all the post has been sorted and prepared for delivery.

He said: “It does affect the morale of the people when you are sitting around doing nothing and you could be out doing your job.

“It must be the only company in the country that doesn't want you to go out and work. We joke about it saying they'll have gun turrets stopping people leaving.”

He says the company has not told residents about the changes, leaving the postmen themselves to explain to customers why the post is late.

Delivery routes have also changed so residents on some roads may have found the postman they are used to seeing has been replaced by someone else.

Sunita Chohan, a spokesman for Royal Mail, said: “Delivery specifications in the Harrow delivery office have not changed.

“The period leading up to deliveries going out is used to ensure all the rounds are prepared and ready to go out on time.

“It is a key time for training purposes and is a period when staff are able to have a meal relief.”

Seems to be quite lucky to have all the mail sorted ! at ours recently it's left untill the following day as theres not enough hours to do all the sorting...

We always get our IPS mail sorted,although M3 might get delayed if normal mail volumes are high in which case the M3 is done on overtime by volunteers after delivery.

This is a misleading article written by a journalist who has not looked into topic properly.

Shout me down if you will but a DO needs/should ensure all rounds have been sorted and prepeed to allow for any missorts to be re-circulated. I was told not to allow people out until all the rounds were ready. Some posties would have theirs done quicker than others. This could be because they are quicker, or their round is simpler to prepare. Either way this rule should remain. Maybe people can helps those who might be struggling that day.

I also want to point out in my experienece that some of the slower ones should not be in the job any longer and others are lazy, so should someone who has prepper their round quicker help them out?

Sometimes two many people around a frame can make things worse, it's not like the old days were someone could throw up a walk in a box frame fitting and then people could help to lay it in, in those days more hands made light work, now with an RM2000 frame, people just get in one another's way, as for the "slower ones" Fozzie, as I say to all managers when they question someones speed on prep "you go on the walk and throw it up lets see how quick you are" they never take up the offer

Have you seen the mistakes whenever a manager preps the frame, and whenever you say anything the tell you it's not their job (but I'm supposed to be able to remember 30 odd duties and prep and deliver them at the same speed as the normal postie).

After the last dispute a manager sorted up my walk(it was my rest day) a casual took it out, he couldn't get in to one of the block of flats because of the intercoms, for that block I have two redirection's, sure enough there were two letters for one of the address's and one for the other one that had not been redirected, when I pulled the manager about it he said "I'm under a lot of pressure" I said "how do you think these poor sods on 30 hr wks, who you stand over and tell them that they are not quick enough feel"
