That's the reason why I'm not doing any this year (same goes with a lot of people in my DO).Si67 wrote:Do you know what?? I dont mind doing a bit of o/t over christmas!! christmas overtime rumour-any one confirm?
After the current loss of nights and dutys at our office I wonder just what time we will be geting out on delivery this xmas, even if we do have some night hours put in over the xmas pressure I doubt we will be getting out untill very late. With bigger walks and the loss of dutys the sorting will now take even longer this year, the bulk of the work will probably be turning up after 06:00 like it dose now and any night sorting put in over xmas will probably have to concentrate on the flood of packets that will hit.
Come xmas pressure it will be getting dark at roughly 16:00 - 16:30 and I can assure you I don't want to be out delivering then and can't see myself working past my time this year unless they make it well worth my while and 20 hours s.a dosent even come close let alone 13. What Royal Mail need to understand is that the s.a overtime at xmas is seen by a lot of us as a top up on the insult of the £100 bonus that we get, the walks have got bigger now and there is less of us to do the sorting so we would like an increase not a knock down.
Taking this into acount I can unfortunatly see casuals taking my work out this year, with all 6 sacks of packets I will be getting daily they will be welcome to it.

£2000 for Chistmas and I'll consider completeing my duty every day, otherwise I'll be heading home bang on my time
I suggest all those on here to do the same thing just to let them know that it's us (not them) who do all the work

Yep but they can make your life miserable if you do not. Something which they do with me on a regular basis. You cannot be made to work beyond your contracted hours
Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

with managers budgets being the main thing they will concentrate on you can gaurentee that the general public, some would say our customers are not going to get a satisfactory level of service.all managers will either be thinking of a nice bonus or panicking about going over budget.consequently the pressure is going to be in the postmans court.last year we took on 4 temps and they did some inward sorting first week and when they went on delivery guess what all finished the same week.i am absolutely dreading this christmas as i think it has all the makings of one of the biggest cockups going.
i hope the cwu bring something out supporting posties who will not be able to work over not locally but nationally, giving proper break requirements ,breaking off.it is intimidating now so god knows what it will be like over christmas.

Well!! I guess it will be a cock up! But at the end of the day if you want the o/t its goin to be there at a time you need it.. So you have a choice do it or dont.. if you dont somebody from outside will. Thats niether here nor there thats up to us.. But!! If you do go for o/t like probably me! I know or expect in January when mail volumes are even worse as history tells and not the hours to reflect.. We will be as I said before slapped in the face and the onslaught of being working class scum will start all over again!! I know its a principle thing. But in this dog eat dog capitalist society we live in today nobody gives a s**t about you or me! So you take what you can when you can and try to survive.. If you dont... You wont be my hero! Sorry but its true... I wont even know about your heroic crusade!! Or you mine...
s**t that was deep... Ignore me!

It's the only time of the year the public like us , give us good will. Don't like the idea of taking our management issues out on the public. Overtime not for everyone but it is our chance to earn a few quid and provide a service at an important time, lets get the packets and parcels to them. Hate to think Crimbo spoiled by us not going the extra mile for a couple of weeks, let hostilities resume in January.

steviemac i agree with you but we have to have the correct infra structure in place now, budgets are now setting the precedent and i feel managers are going to do it on the cheap ,minimum staff levels and maximum pressure to work over and not book o/t.coupled by the fact as we get out later and less daylight to work in mean people could take short cuts.all we need is adequate staffing to pre-empt the really busy days which i think will be cost effective ie night sorters back .ips o/t.relief collections.or at least have back up plans for excessive mail .

Half the number on nights(inexperienced people expected to do this and the I.P.S).no extra vans ( they want people to do 11am till 7pm wich includes a quarter of a walk, sort the packets for your delivery areas till the vans come back about 2pm then go out and finish in the dark).no S.A overtime... i can see it being a complete failurein our office this year

Xmas pressure coupled with the cuts in DO`s that management have made, the lack of planning by management, certainly in my office there is going to be total chaos. The DOM`s are going to go off sick all over the region due to the stress when they realise that a lot of the good will from previous years during xmas pressure is now withdrawn. Hope they all have suitable walking shoes and waterproofs.

Not our problem if they are intent on screwing us all year then i'm one who does not intend 'helping them out' and i dare say most feel the same way why would anyone would contemplate giving there all for a bunch of tossers that are royal mail managers i do not know. The public im sure by now realise with the fiasco of p.o closures that the managers do not even care about the diabolical service levels that now prevail in the name of 'modernisation'darth postie wrote:steviemac i agree with you but we have to have the correct infra structure in place now, budgets are now setting the precedent and i feel managers are going to do it on the cheap ,minimum staff levels and maximum pressure to work over and not book o/t.coupled by the fact as we get out later and less daylight to work in mean people could take short cuts.all we need is adequate staffing to pre-empt the really busy days which i think will be cost effective ie night sorters back .ips o/t.relief collections.or at least have back up plans for excessive mail .

Why should we all help royalmail to solve the problems of UNDERSTAFFING that they created by the policy's of :cfo & :lfo for if we help them now!. WE ALL CAN LOOK FORWARD TO MORE CUT'S IN THE NEW YEAR AS WE GOT THE JOB DONE SO WE MUST BE OVERSTAFFED!.
