Job Title: Casual Mail Sorter - Romford Mail Centre
Salary: Competitive
Location: Romford (RM7)
Job Reference: Totaljobs/RML024591
Job Type: Temporary
Date posted: 25/10/2008 18:04

Job Id: 41663744 Image

Would you prefer to work to live, or live to work? Are you looking for seasonal work? Unable to take on a permanent position due to other commitments?

Royal Mail is now recruiting casual staff to sort the mail. If you are able to work to tight deadlines, while maintaining a professional and positive image, you are the type of person we're looking for.

Pay Rate:£5.95 per hour

Contract length: 12 weeks

Hours of work: As and when required - You must be available to work every Saturday if required

You'll be an integral part of our business, someone who has the flexibility to work on a casual short-term basis during times of pressure or staff shortages. You'll work for up to 12 weeks, as and when required, with no fixed shift pattern or guaranteed hours.

Working in a loud, busy factory-style environment, you'll be standing for long periods of time, segregating the mail by machine or by hand and bundling it into the correct bags so it can be delivered to the correct addresses.

You must be able to lift and carry mailbags and boxes weighing up to 11kg and push containers weighing up to 250kg. You'll also need to be flexible and adaptable as you are likely to undertake several different tasks in one shift.

You need to consider how you will get to work for your shift, as public transport may not be available early or late in the day.

Does this appeal to you? Do you have the drive and dedication we need and want to work for a company that has stood the test of time? Royal Mail has been around for 350 years and delivers to every address in the UK If so, this position may be for you.

If selected for assessment you may be required to attend a Document Checking Session. If your documentation is complete you will then be invited to attend an interview at a later date.

Please note, once our maximum number of applications has been reached, this vacancy will be withdrawn.

They don't make it sound appealing do they? £5.85 per hour, at their beck and call, you may have to work every Saturday (course you will!). Sounds familiar.

Sounds like many other similar jobs, but do you expect them to offer more than other similar factory/processing jobs?

That is counter balanced by the departure of Poles, the pool of volunteeers will be smaller, when teh good times roll round again, RM will lose those staff, no employment loyalty will have been generated, so no reason, as to the Dole dosing Chavs they won't get out of bed for £5.85p.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

:lfo & :cfo have taken Royal Fail backwards as UNITE & Dave Ward have said - back to the 1930's ! :d'oh! - the irony is that the reason why the Unions became powerful in Liverpool was due to people having to be lined up and chosen - similarily the Teamsters Union and their Ilk fought back at the " people at the gates " jibes in the States - or even the Railway Unions when a driver could be sacked if the steam train made a Director's white hankerchief dirty when he wiped it on the engine - that attitude resulted in general strikes :d'oh!

It never fails to make me laugh - years ago they showed the picture of the last casual leaving the office gates in the local rag - then we'd one of :lfo 's " love children " announcing to us all there would no more cassies .

Expect lots of stories on Hellmail  - they never , never ever learn :lfo :cfo :mfo :arrrghhh :d'oh!

Apparently if this advert doesn't work there will be press gangs sent out in the late evening/early morning coshing drunks and have them wake up in some mail centre dressed in a uniform and told they will be released after twelve weeks. :dance
