RM Manager turns out for fire service while on duty ???
Today our assistant manager answered a 999 call whilst on RM duty at 10.30am until 13.15pm, his fire service 2nd job should not intervene with RM 1st job shouldn't it ?

Retained firemen are usually only called out when there aren't any spare people to send to a job, it could be your house or your relatives that he is going to , I am sure you wouldn't begrude him that, if his boss knows and okied it, it shouldn't conflict if they have a spare Manager or supervisor to cover.

this is it,this isnt the usual issue of managers skulking off early
we need volunteer firefighters and all employers should try to be accomodating

My apologies for my cynical jaundiced views on RM managers and certain blue shirts as you have a mirrored culture .custard wrote:NWpostie wrote:Retained firemen are usually only called out when there aren't any spare people to send to a job, it could be your house or your relatives that he is going to , I am sure you wouldn't begrude him that, if his boss knows and okied it, it shouldn't conflict if they have a spare Manager or supervisor to cover.

Apparently after the dispute with the FBU and Prescott when he was local government minister - the Fire Service apparently went for reserve firemen as it'd be cheaper - so it could have well been possible that the fire brigade were shorthanded that day .
The CMA would have had a arrangement with RM to release reserve firemen and RM to be fair are more accomodating than some employers . I'd imagine it would be same with RAF reservists and TA soldiers .
Also the firemen aren't on the highest wages - I remember speaking to a fire brigade cook who was on more than firemen risking their lives .

RM Manager turns out for fire service while on duty ???
Just to add......he answered the call after the bleeps went down at 10.30am for the whole-time crew not for retained.......his retained station officer was acting PHG at the time told him my priority is RM now and that we are both not on call until 14.00hrs that day !!! (after RM hours) he turned up for the call and was out until 13.15pm (not needed as whole-time crew had full manning). Is he earning money by deception ?
The parcels in our office failed to be delivered that day, as he wasn't around to order cover ? who's wrong NOW ?
He also refuses to pay O/T & has tried to stop posties with second jobs before !!!
