Managers use the term "lapsing", but what exactly does it mean as they're always "lapsing" duties in my D.O.

Its a pre-cusor.

Prefix with "COL" and you have the future of Royal Mail as a whole.

We still have the option to lapse some days... When a round isn't covered you get asked if you want to deliver some of it... Usually 50-70 houses... Do no sorting and get out early.

So is "Lapsing" about absorbing part of a duty like as you say 50-70 doors, but not getting paid for it, instead your getting out earlier, so the manager scores because it's costing him nothing to get those 50-70 doors delivered, and you think you've scored because he's let you out earlier, but the fact is that you've still got to deliver a extra 50-70 doors!

No - lapsing is a manager asking you to cover a part of a walk within your duty time and you telling him ok but then asking him which part of your own duty you should cut off. Leaving early shouldnt be in the equation as you should be leaving at the official designated time every day no matter what.

The cut off would generally be more than the lapsed duty as you need to take into account travelling time to and from the lapsed walk.

This is why lapsing was removed after 1 day in our office.
