There's a lot of talk going round our office that Postconn have agreed to Royal Fail dropping Saturday deliveries.
This would give them next years 8% saving by getting rid of floaters.
I can't find any confirmation on the news or Postconns site.
Simple question - does anyone know if a deal has been agreed or not ????

Not sure if matrix (floating) duties would go in the event of a mon-fri working week. Im hearing rumours of a 4x10 hours shift pattern to accomodate the larger duties pegasus is throwing out.
Dumping saturdays would end the 'light' monday and tuesday ethos and spread work more evenly across the week, thus keeping jobs. No more hiding the trucks of mailsort on fridays either, eh managers?

Postwatch and Postcom have made no decisions or recommendations as far as I know. One of them did say that they would have no disagreement with a 5 day service.
However - The Postal Act 2000 contains this little portion:
Just to clarify I am against 5 day service.

so (a) would need to changed and that would require an Act of Parliament or a political decision to change to 5 day service. I think its going to happen but a lot of things have to happen first.“working day” means—
(a) in relation to the collection and delivery of letters, any
day which is not a Sunday or a public holiday,
(b) in relation to the collection and delivery of postal
packets other than letters, any day which is not a Saturday, a
Sunday or a public holiday.

I know it will involve job losses but it makes sense.
This week monday and tuesday were ridiculously light, then today (Weds) was absolutely blitzed.
No doubt thurs, fri & sat will be the same. My argument has always been that we are not underworked,
there just isn't enough work for a 6 day week.

in a discussion with my dsm the other week with him prattling on about how mail volumes are down i asked how they thought they could continue to make savings in our office when we are in his words from 2 years ago at the bare bones on delivery......would they consider making the job mon - fri as all the rest day covers would no longer be needed to make the savings....his answer to me was only an act of change permitted by parliament could scrap saturday deliveries and this wouldnt be allowed so our jobs are safe.......i think hes a bullshitter and the biggest cock ive met as his answer to the same question from me last year was mon - fri by 2010
believe me the change will happen and us reserves are likely to be on the scrapheap soon

The old 5 days chestnut
.............No chance.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

i'm against it, but assuming that some of our colleagues wishe came true, what on earth posess them to think that it would be a saturday thats dropped.
The big copmpany contracts "that pay our wages" i'm guessing would want to optimise their chances, specials and recordeds in theory stand a better chance of the recipient being in on a saturday than mon-fri. As is being continually reported mon and tues are light so why not bundle them into 1 day.....????

My rep says the universal service only applies to delivery on Monday to Friday so the loss of the Saturday delivery is a done deal.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Not

When i started 13 years ago mon-fri was just around the corner, i don't believe it's any closer than it was then, the way postcomm back peddled when dropping saturday deliveries hit the press doesn't make it likely to happen any time soon.
