The thing is,we know the machines work,so there will be savings along the line.
Just think when you throw a walk off and someone has all ready 'streeted' it for you how easier that is.
So the walks will not only be 'streeted' they will be in number order.

We're doomed..........

These machines (which we have been using for nearly 2 years) are not for now they are for the future,part-timers,casuals,people having bags of mail delivered to their houses with maybe one street,an hours work a day with no contract,no holiday pay,no pension, kids home from school, never mind just take it out in the evening when the old man gets home - trust me this is what the sequencing is all about and this is why it's been put on hold - too many full timers - for now.

Credit crunch ?? manner from heaven for Royal Fail, use that as excuse for Leighton & Croziers total cock up and get rid of most of the exsisting staff and replace us with casuals,

This is the future - wake up and smell the coffee

They save an experienced postperson around 10 minutes on prep.At nearly £200,000 per machine that's a hell of a price to pay for very little gain - at the moment. When one person can prep say 5 deliveries to be taken out to casuals houses - now you're talking big savings

If they do bring in "Preppers" and "Deliverers" and the Preppers have to do 5 walks won't they have to change the pipeline to get the mail to units earlier, or will they change the targets so that 1st class mail can take 2 - 3 days instead :no no

I for one wont be able to prep 5 deliveries and do my own delivery within 9 - 5 hours. :mad

Preppers will work indoors and not go out on delivery.Casuals will deliver say to 80 addresses or so, maybe 1 hours work a day

As for 1st class mail taking 2-3 days,I redirect my daughters mail from TA to BS put it direct into the BS bag and it usually takes 2-3 days to get there.

It happens in Holland,Mums drop kids off at school, deliver the mail on the way home.Kids ill ?? wait till old man gets home.Pouring with rain, wait till it stops or even deliver it next day.

This is the future and this is what walk sequencing machines are all about.

correct and has been royal mails objective from day one. i remember seeing some slides of this from royal mail and the cwu many years ago ,indeed a few of the cwu hierachy visited netherland delivery offices to see how it is implemented.worrying times ahead particulary now as the credit crunch will cover a multitude of sins regarding change which in my opinion will not be to our benefit.the thing is we cannot be luddites over the walk sequencing machines it is how we get to a compromise (if we get one)where f/t will not be affected.

Very good point, but the CWU/UCW has a terrible track record on that score. Refusing to negotiate changes and adapt to new technology in the early planning phases, then being forced to accept changes and compromise when the machinery is in and working, seems to be par for the course over many years for this union.

Also here's hoping the WSM operators can get a better deal than other mech operators, but I doubt it; probably the CWU will still ensure that it's old Bert (sen number 1) aged 64 3/4 who gets to run it..... :cry

Look it should be no surprise that walk sequencing apart from Gatwick and a couple of sites and obiviously the orginal trail sites has been put on hold.

Why would Royal mail invest at this time when some in government , royal mail and post comm want private capital from a possible joint venture bought into play.

With regards to the constant headquater bashing on here it just makes me cringe. I am no headquaters person but since 2003 pay has gone up the highest percentage ever over 5 years and we have not had once complusory redundancy.

Sometimes in a union we have a collective responsisbilty those of you who changed your spec without an agreement, or used pegasus without an agreement and havnt gone through the IR framework have to look at yourselves. The easy option is to bash CWU HQs and sometimes thats fair but if you do that you have to walk the walk not just talk the talk. Its no good your branchs going to conference supporting stuff then doing nothing about it. I mean pegasus as well as other things.

So how do we do this then,on here is just a small amount of what seems to be going on around the UK.
Some Branches or reps seem to be clued up,but what about the rest.
Do Branches have regular enough meetings with HQ or their DIV's for fact findings.
Are reps having enough meetings with Branches?

It seems to me the answers to all this is NO as you can read the s**t that is going on.

That's not a dig at HQ because as far as they're aware Branches ect are doing their bit,but somethings not right.
