Geordie wrote:You've already mentioned you stood for, and got elected to the job.

You then handed it back to the Rep who you have no faith in, and now you simply criticise them.

You obviously have a significant issue with your rep, so in your position, I'd stand for the job, get on the committee, learn more about the job, and if I felt the same way about the Area Rep i'd stand against him.

WE have an issue with our rep. :left:

If i buy a service elswhere and get bad service, do I apply for every service job? is that really the answer? I think Gordon Brown is crap so shall I apply for his job then? Shall I take on everything? The rep volunteered for it and cant be bothered. CWU should sort it, but again, looking at this forum CWU head office seems to be the problem and If they aint listning why are some of us union members if we aint gettting value for money.?

I joined cos I wanted back up but WE and many, many others aint getting it so repeatedly telling US to apply for the job and STILL not getting back up from head office is a cop out and a pointless excercise?

Reps on this thread keep blaming head office so why dont you all apply for a head office job then? :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

Once again credit to the good reps.

Before anyone says "YOU DO IT THEN" When I complained a while back to our rep he flung his box of paperwork on the desk and said "You phuqing do it then" So i applied and got the job. He only got 1 vote. I then flung the box of paperwork back at him and said "look and learn. You have it back and do it properly this time" Did he learn? NOPE he is still 100% grade A hopeless.

The above are your words not mine.

Why go to the bother of causing an election if you had no intention of doing it?

My simple point was, and still is, that 'you' have such a problem with your Rep, to the extent of this thread and a petition, and that if I had such a problem, I would stand.

There are loads of Reps who could be better, and there are loads of Reps who could be a lot worse, but they're all volunteers, and only they can tell us why they do it.

It's the easiest thing in the world to criticise others, and a lot, lot harder to stand in their shoes.

You can come up with a million reasons why you can't be a Rep, but as long as you're in the job there's no reason why you can't.

And if all of you don't want him, put in a vote of no confidence and get rid of him.

Then of course, you're in the position of having no Rep, unless someone wants to volunteer.......

We will have to agree to disagree but the CWU take lots of money every month promising lots on all the nice shiny glossy brochures and some reps and CWU head office according to this thread give nothing and that aint right. There are not enough hours in the day for me to apply for every job where someone cant be bothered.

What did I stand on the picket line for last time? I cant see any benefits yet? :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

All reps positions are up for grabs in January so step forward and take the position. It is so easy to critise on the sidelines but step into a reps shoes and you will realise that suddenly YOU are the person who has to take the flak from all sides and only then can you appreciate what reps go through. Sorry, no can do. My reps supported me 100% in getting me reinstated, :nana :nana so the very least I can do is give them the same support. I have no problem in paying my subs, in fact I'd have paid double for what they've done for me!!!!
They don't always have an easy job to do and maybe they don't get it right everytime, but when they do, then we have to give credit where it's due, and I am forever in debt to my reps! :Applause :Applause :Applause
I can only please one person per day.

I go with this guyess. There is a lot more to being a rep than 9 - 5. If you havent the temperement for the job dont bash those who do. Our place is great but the handcuffs of nowadays make it a different game altogether.

I think Mr Skinback has a valid point. I know the vast majority of our reps put in total commitment for little reward , but some are substandard, and some are badly trained and poorly supported. These factors are a result of poor organization and as inferred by the title, the' leadership' must accept responsibility. Why are we subsidising the New Tories When we can't even afford to get our reps up to speed or communicate with the membership in a timely fashion?

It seems to be backfiring.

Judging by the fact that so far, there are only 4 Signitures on the Petition. It seems like the Membership have faith in the majority of CWU Reps. It's just a pity, that the same can't be said for HQ.

cant sign your petition mate, its disappointing your rep is not up to scratch, maybe you need to take the plunge ? our local reps are excellent but it seems a thankless task on the whole. with so many different points of view on the floor it is impossible to please everyone and in my time with RM i have seen several Reps health suffer big time because of the constant hassle from both sides.

At last my point exactly Thank You

I can remember when the Tories brought in laws to restrict the unions and Labour were agahast yet A: Labour have not recinded those laws and B: Unions are still subsidising Labour and I am subsidisng the Unons without any return.

All I get on thread is YOU DO IT Stock bloody answer and no good whatsoever! Whats the point of CWUHQ are crap? The mind boggles. Why is it called the Communication Union but soem of them dont communicate?

I can also remember Labour being aghast at the Tories when they put 7.5% VAt on Gas and Lecky. Still here is it not?

It does seem as if the powers that be are a little too absorbed with procedural rules and power politics to recognise the fact that whilst Reps are our workplace representatives, they are also the representatives of the union in the workplace.
Money spent on a national crash course education program covering the last agreement and providing on demand advice and support might have been more helpful than subsidising Mandy's party

Again we have this crap about funding labour somehow diverting money from other important items of expenditure!

Do not ignore the inconvienent truth that money for Labour comes out of a separate fund which is finaced by a voluntary 10 p a week levey on top of your normal subs. If the CWU need more money then they will have to put subs up or try and improve membership levels(how about a letter from Dave Ward asking them to join, first 3 months free special offer) if the subs go up and you feel the amount of dosh your paying is too much then consider dropping the voluntary party of your subs.

So please comrades lets not ignore an incoveinent truth that our political expenditure has no impact on non political expenditure!

Why don’t the Unions refuse to handle it all then Voluntary or not? What is Cyclops Gordo doing for the unions, anything? I see Tony Blair is having no credit crunch with his ten houses worth millions. Not bad for someone who worked for a party that supposedly represent the working class :left:

Why not make it opt out at joining instead of being automatically opted in from the start. My useless rep never mentioned this either :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh
