Undeliverable mail headache

The number of badly addressed letters and packets handled by the Royal Mail is set to reach 25 million since the start of the year, figures show.

Each week, about 600,000 items of mail are so badly addressed or packaged that they cannot be delivered. Thousands just have a name and no address.

Undeliverable mail is sent to a centre in Belfast, where letter detectives try to identify the correct recipient.

Has anyone noticed a rise in the 'un-returnable' mailsort?

Since we started shredding mailsort without return addresses I'm sure they have increased in number.

And these letters they don't get returned now the incorrect addresses won't be deleted so mailings to them will continue every few months indefinately.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

I canonly assume that shredding un-returnable mailsort is cheaper than trying to get it back to the DSa supplier. However, I believe RM are launching a 'green' initative which gives the DSA supplier a discount for cleaning up their database. One assumes they need to update their database from RM, which brings in revenue.

I wonder what they are doing with the shredded waste?
