Save our postman plea

A campaign has been launched by a community to save its popular postman from a transfer.

A petition and poster campaign was started by a group of angry residents in Westleigh to prevent their postie of seven years from being moved to another route.

Eileen Barnes, 57, who lives on Warlow Drive, has rallied around with other residents to prevent the postman – who they know by his first name of Tony – from being moved to a route on Firs Lane.

She said: "All the neighbourhood is up in arms. We don't want him to go and he's told us he doesn't want to go either.
"There are a lot of elderly people on some of the streets and they all know him and they don't want him to go.

"I know one woman who is 85 and she gave his Christmas box now because she won't see him again, it was awful.
"It's just so sad. He's like postmen used to be, he'll stop and spend the time of day with you, have a little chat.
"He knows all our names, even the names of my grandchildren."

Eileen believes she can collect well in excess of 100 residents' signatures calling for Tony to stay before she sends it to Royal Mail's top brass.

A spokesman for Royal Mail said: "We are pleased that our customers in Westleigh have had such excellent service from one of our members of staff.

"Due to a revision in the walks at Leigh delivery office, the postman will now be covering a different area.

"We are confident that his replacement will be able to provide the same high level of service which the customers have come to expect."

Does Tony actually want to stay on that route?

Ive been with RM for a tad over 17 years and have been through two rolling resigns and three resigns due to revisions.

Its part and parcel of life in RM customers need to get used to it!

I agree it a shame that the postman has been moved to another duty, but that life, I personally believe customers have been spoilt over the years, like getting there post around 8am, those days are sadly gone, customers should stop moaning at new postie covering there rounds, its not there fault that mail volume is so high, its not there fault they are getting out so late, I really can't understand the fuss they make about getting there post first thing in the morning, we can't be everywhere, if Mr Jones is getting post around 8am so what time are the rest of the 700 customers getting post
