The ultimate resposibility for personal safety at work rests with that person. Health and safety laws are nothing new you know. There is also a responsibility to point out risks by H&S reps and other workers. To pass the entire buck of H&S to management is ludicrous. We SHOULD all know the risks and if not, the person who deals with H&S isn't doing their job right. If the person goes and does something contrary to those rules, knowing what they are, the responsibility is theirs. End of.

No nighty it's the employer that has a duty of care !!! this cannot and should not put aside just to enable royal fail to get the mail out the door as cheeply as posible. The trouble is they have to many yes men managers who do not have the ball* to stand against the next tier of do as i say managers within royal fails ever increasing management structures

Again, it doesn't matter HOW much duty of care there is or isn't. In the end we are each responsible for what we do each day and make SURE we stick to the rules - its called doing the job correctly. Unless you're a total lemming. Maybe some are, in which case they'll need to hold someones hand on deliveries too.

Because its the only answer some can muster. lol.

Even when I drive I have a thousand and one decisions to make to avoid endangering others or myself as well as thinking about the security of items I'm carrying but I don't expect some fairytale mummy to tell me the obvious. How many even bother to read the safety instructions on trains. Get real - take control of your own actions and don't expect mummy DOM to hold your hand. Never heard so much rubbish in all my life.
