It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

As I have long advocated as a CWU health and safety rep and on ROYALMAILCHAT - DON'T use private cars on delivery the consequences can be dire indeed.
And as a CWU health and safety rep am I glad that we have a first class National Health, Safety and Environment Officer.

You really think a senior officer within the CWU would write to a Head of Department within Royal Mail with that in it without checking with the in house legal team on its legality or without having evidence to back it up. If he has done it on a whim I am sure Royal Mail will take him to town on such a scurrilous and ill-founded claim.Night Tonic wrote:THe manager FORCED him to use his own car??? Really???

I sincerely hope that at least 2 things happen as a result of this incident:
1) The DOM should be sacked for gross negligence, and have charges brought against him, for the same reasons.
2) The Postie who had the accident, should be prosecuted to the full extent of the Law. Because that would provide a powerful deterrant for anyone else considering using a Private Vehicle on Deliveries.
Will they ever learn?
DON'T USE YOUR OWN VEHICLE ON DELIVERIES!!!!!

In my office new starters are being bullied into using cars on delivery, foe example just last week a new starter's car broke down and a manager was asking him when he was getting his car back.Night Tonic wrote:THe manager FORCED him to use his own car??? Really???
Another new starter asked for a cycle last year and was pulled into the office the next day and told that in no uncertain terms that at the moment it's bye bye and that if he wanted to keep his job he had better improve his performance (meaning no more threats not to use his car).
More senior guys have an easier time not using cars as they are not at the manager's beck and call on reserve,so they do not have an excuse, once they are on a walk permenantly and can set up back drop facilities.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

We had someone using his own car on a firms drive the other week, when I asked him what he was doing, he said "the guvnors asked me to use my car because we are a van short" when I told him that he was an idiot to be using his car, he said "I'm up on a RTU(stage 3) in a couple of weeks and the guvnor has said he will put a word in with the sector manager for me"
It may not be a case of someone being FORCED to use there car, but it comes close
