HAS ANYONE SEEN IN BLACK AND WHITE ,THE ACTUAL AGREEMENT REGARDING DUTIES DONE BY POSTIES ON FAMILY FRIENDLY AGREEMENT.IT SEEMS TO BE VERY COSY. ALMOST IMMUNE FROM THE EFFECTS OF THE FLEXIBILITY AGREEMENT.CAN ANYONE SHED LIGHT ON THIS.I CAN SEE IT CAUSING FRICTION IN MANY OFFICES FOR YEARS TO COME.

FF in my office = do as little as possible.

Haha, aren't family friendly part of flexibility, it does make it seem that you are better off if you have kids though because you can work the hours you want then!

we have had to fight to get family friendly duties.originally it was used to get people to go p/t.i am currently going through arbitrarion as i have to finish at set times .i can assure you that it is not an excuse to get an easier life but when you have dependents that have to be looked after at specific times it is not a question of turning up late.i like many others have seen a reduction in my earnings as each change of time has meant my wife changing and reducing her hours,loss of s/a.

In my office the FF guys start at 5 am don"t do any I.P.S sorting and start their walks at 8 30 am and finish around noon,
Then to rub salt into the wounds both spend in total well over 25 mins going outside for fag/ tea breaks.
So to say it causes ill feelings with most of the rest of us...in one word YES.

That's bad management and has nothing to do with the FF duties.
The FF duties in my DO start early but the do all their required IPS and work the same hours as the rest of us.

Sounds like our office except here they don,t wait for the missort run or absorb any part of a walk.

Never heard of FF, I have 3 kids all at different playgroups, childminders and school,
Sounds like a great idea to me, although I am pt anyway so it means I can finish before the first of them needs picking up (wife works afternoons). and if you think they have it easy take it from me I would much rather be still on my round or doing SA than doing the school runs and housework refereeing between the fights etc. Alarm goes off at 5 in the orining wife comes home at about 6 or 7 in the evening don't normally get to stop in between. would be nice to fiish my duty and come home and put my feet up.
Also this FF makes the job available to a much wider range of people who would otherwise be claiming benefits... personally i dont see the problem

I have no problem with FF duties as an idea, but what pis##S ME OFF is when they do not do their share of the work, in my office they start at 5 am we come in at 6 and see them outside smoking for 20 minutes No ips they just come in throw up their mail and deliver , while the rest of do the 40/ 50 odd minutes of ips.

Does sound like they are taking the p a bit rekon the DOM or rep should have a word as it dosn't seem as if they using the system fairly.

We have a couple of FF duties in my office, they start early but still do their full duty (putting out the mech bundles/IPS etc) they get to go out early, usually before the p/t staff (who have a 3.5 hour delivery) that finish at 12.30, f/t finish at 14.00. They seem to work but the staff have to put the effort in to get the benefit of the early finish. I suppose it is down to how the DOM manages the office.

I'd love the chance to do FF as thanks to my daughters nursery mis-treating her, me and my partner are now on lower income than before due to my partner having to leave work to look after her and didn't see point in my partner working purely to cover costs of childminder/nursery. I'm on 30hr contract and cover 5 routes. My manager won't allow me to go on FF but doesnt say anything when I go in early so I can try and finish early (tho this never happens as even when I go out on delivery at same time as rest I'm usually waiting on my 2nd bag for anything from 10 min to an hour) so even if I was on FF it wouldn't really do me any good since my bags never get to me on time.

I do my fair share of IPS, overtime and I throw out all pre-sorted mail to the walks in my section ready for when everyone comes in. I'd give anything to bring back the early starts.

Hmmmmm a bit of a cleft stick really. It would only be available at RM, if my wife said she could only do a 12 hour shift when it fitted in with the family commitments she wouldn't be working long, however it seems to be OK if you work for RM and what the family commitments are. Who decides what is family friendly and necessary and are the decisions universal?

I am almost at the end of my service and so it isn't really an issue but it may have been at various stages of my working life but there was never any suggestion that I would be working different hours or tailoring a work pattern to suit my home life. No no - your home life was tailored to fit the work NOT the other way around - I think people expect too much of their employer. Provide a work pattern so their wife/partner can work, provide overtime so they can work longer hours and earn more money - it's all too much. My wife only went back to work when the children had left school and they themselves earned their keep, life was tough on one wage, BUT you carried out any work necessary to provide for a family, buy a house - but foreign holidays, running a car, phones etc no they were luxuries - you learned to carry out all manner of repairs and make do and mend. Jumble sales were a favourite weekend pastime not new and designer clothes.

It would do the younger generations good to have a reality check as to what is essential and what isn't.

Yet again I have to agree dvduk55 . Like you we got very little. The Family allowance was not paid on the first child and so it was a big decision to take the plunge and start a family, going to one wage. Times I know have changed but we were taught to only buy what you can afford and if not save first then buy. As things have turned out that advice still hold good to this day.

Work life is one thing and home-life another, when you come to work you leave home problems at home and pick up the work problems.

I know I will get some grief for this but Why FF duties only if you have children ?
