being forced into doing deliveries

Post by Chrissie »

I work in a mail centre attached to a delivery office and we are being forced to do parts of deliveries because they are so short staffed. Management are using the guise of flexibility to do this. Anybody else in the same situation. :cuppa

Arent they supposed to use reserves and volunteers from processing before they ask anyone else to
cover deliveries?
In my MC they asked for volunteers from the early shift who would be willing to be trained for deliveries
and to go on to a reserve list to be used if required.

May as well, now the mail volume slow-down means machines standing idle for longer.... :whistle

Unfortunately the agreement accepted by a majority of CWU members contains this little gem:
Working in nearby offices – Areas will identify and agree with the CWU locally a approach (which could include the use of volunteers and reserves) to working in nearby offices within employees’ contracted hours which will include travel times and appropriate travel and subsistence arrangements.
So unfortunately the Managers have it right this time.

It does bring up one good point though as a lot of people are complaining about various parts of the new regime that are covered by the agreement and when you point it out they say "Well If I had known I would of voted against it" :arrrghhh. Why do people sign of on contracts and agreements if they have not read and understood the implications of it. Mind you this is probably what RM planned on any way.

BTW this is a general comment rather than one aimed at anyone in particular.

A touch of AGORAPHOPIA should prevent you going out on the streets.

Only if Chrissie is a reserve, as she obviously hasn't volunteered.
