You should take it if you are not working or working in a crap job. A postman job is good job but Royal Mail is not a nice company to work for and the workload can be unreasonable some days.

So I would advise you to take the job and keep your option open for better jobs.

It is not an easy or cushy job.

A frame is the fitting into which you sort letter, it is usually 48 or 64 boxes labelled for different cities
and counties, or postcodes in a mailcentre (sorting office) or firms and roads in a delivery office.

Whether you think sorting is boring depends on your outlook. A lot of people do find it boring. I personally
don't mind it. I can switch off and sort without thinking about it too much. It can help to have a personal
radio or ipod to listen too, or once you get to know people to have a chat while you're sorting.
Some managers can be annoying.

If you take a job as a part timer you should be aware that it may take a long time to get a full time job
and the way things are going you may never get FT hours.

For me its more that working for Royal Mail is s**t but the job of being a Postman is still a good one, especially once you our out of the office and, at the moment, realise that its no longer a good idea to finish as early as we used to.

I love the job,but then I'm full time and have my own delivery, do the job proprely and pace myself. The problem with anyone starting now is you'll be expected to do more or less what I do but on a part time wage, and on a day to day basis do overtime to complete your delivery(and make your wages up).Which means it'll hurt your pocket when your just taking home your basic cos your on holiday ,off sick or through the summer months when they wont offer you overtime cos the works lighter.
Id only advise people to take the job if theres really no other option

I have had the job 6 months and its not as easy as people say at all. The only positive is finishing about 1330-1400. M y worst moment was seeing my packet bag overloaded when everybody was out and gone about an hour before I even got to my packet bag and when it was overloaded I just thought "this is terrible"

Yes, if you want to start at 10.00 and finish at 3.00 or 4.00 on a heavy day.

Dont listen to them m8...if you take the job 'cause theres no other options you'll be desperate and RM thrive on such people. Part time temporary staff pick up the most crap 'cause theyre subconciously put in fear of their jobs - fear makes people subserviant and weak and RM love this.

Sounds far fetched? Thats what i thought when i started. I worked in several jobs and RM is far and away the worst Ive encountered. Theres so much confrontation and mistrust it almost seems surreal some days.

As the bloke above said, being a Postman is a good job - but ill add that working for RM is probably the biggest mistake you'll ever make.

First the money side of it - the hourly rate isn't bad, but you must look at the hours you are going to work.
If you're single and living at home then the part time wage may be enough for you.
If you have a family or your own house etc then you'll probably be relying on overtime a lot.
Then theres the actual job - some people like it and others have been known to leave after a short while - it can be physically demanding - I found after the first few weeks my body seemed to be ' used to it'.
Finally, the future. Be careful if you find yourself doing a lot of overtime to manage because royal mail are trying various ways to reduce or eliminate overtime.
My best advice would be to try the job but have a back-up plan, some people have second jobs, are trying their hand at running their own businesses or are studying etc.

Hello lancs123 let me tell you I have been working in other jobs over the last year & they are all crap, alot of posties moan about the job but after being out in the real world ,being a postie is a good job yes it's hard work & the managers can be awful, but I can't wait to go back to my postie job, I start back in about a week,it keeps you fit & you are your own boss when your out & the money is good compared to most jobs so you must at least give it ago. :hmmmm
