When i worked in local Goverment they got 40 p a mile. Why should very low paid posties subisidise your employer . If its a bike duty use a bike or get the managers to drop you off and collect ypou back. Why damage your car and use your petrol for your work . You might be slightly quicker , but they will in time only add more points on to your walk . Don't con yourself with you car usage .

We covered this on a recent Union course. If you MUST take your car out, and seriously I don't think you should for all the reasons stated against it above, then remember your insurance is not valid whilst using it for work. Even if you have some sort of cover which also covers you for work use, then you are only covered for one bag, you are never entitled to leave the mail unattended. So IF YOU MUST then send your extra pouches out to your bag drops, and only take the one bag out in the car, you are saving jobs this way, including your own. Don't give the feckers anything for free, and at least try to let them see that we can't take any cuts as the job is impossible as it is even with people bending over backwards at their own expense to make the job work.
Seriously. Some at our office have filled in some form or other to allow themselves to use their car for delivery, they think they have the backing of RM, but be assured that if they got broken into and mail got stolen from the car, they would be down the road straight away for failing to secure mail.
DON'T DO IT!

The best thing about all this is though Tommo, RM tell us that we can't say any of this as it is inciting industrial action. My buttcrack it is! They can't do anything about it, if you all go to your offices and say - right nobody come in early, nobody use your cars, ecerybody make sure your bag weights are correct. They can do SOD ALL about it! Worst case scenario they send you home on full pay, then call you back in the next day full of embarrassment as they realise that they dont have a leg to stand on.
Telling people not to give RM anything for free is totally fine! So up yours CROZIER up yours LEIGHTON! Lets get the word round each and every single office that we shouldn't be giving up anything. Anyone who says 'but I like to finish on time' remind them that they are in no obligation to work beyond their contracted hours.
WE CAN WIN!

This really really winds me up, why cant they see what theyre doing by using cars & coming in early.Try tellin them but they cant or wont see it. Most of 'em are town walks that make time anyway, those on rurals do it to relieve pressure, try to get out on time and still late back.
You think we're hard done by by things like "the way forward"& bonus schemes etc etc..
We were well & truly shafted by Job n finish.....it created an army of runners who dont give flying f**k about anybody else splitting offices down the middle....ggggrrrrhhhhh!!!!

CARS ON DELIVERY IS A NO NO but morons keep doing it?
I recently sat in on a area H&S forum with reps and managers. Raised the subject about cars pointed out that the area manager and all DOMS knew what was going on. My DOM was pissed off i mentioned it but do you know what. Surprise surprise the subect of private cars wasnt in the offical minutes. So what course of action should i take now? Would be glad to know as this is really peeing me off!

Hi Pete, In my office no-one uses cars on dly its a sackable offence.
Its not Royal mail policy & the Union are dead against it, try & make
those dickheads aware they are saving R/M loads a dosh, & costing us JOBS
If they did'nt use their cars there would have to be more conveyance duties.

Never use my car certainly not the way it is now and I often bike it in only take the car if weather is nasty, protested loudly in Work Time Lying when they handed the use your car forms out but a few went for them like lemmings. I argued the toss with a screw about twelve years ago when they wanted me to do a rural walk on my doorstep, you can take your car etc. Told him the rulebook was very flexible when it suited him demanded a van and got one. Still, went home for a while before bringing the van back and filling out the docket! Those were the days. . .
