Yeah will they expect you to go and deliver the missorts that the machine sequenced, I suppose they will expect you to, but why not just deliver it and if complains come back you can just say "machine runs up the mail now mate, I just deliver it".

Sorry mate. But you appear to be getting the wrong impression.

ALL addresses WILL be input into the Walk Sequencing Machines' computer programme, based on A Plus information, used by the Geo-Route walk planning tool. All machineable mail for each individual address on a walk will be sorted into delivery order.

All Walk Sequenced mail will arrive at Delivery Offices in bundles sequenced into delivery order. Any un-machineable items will need sorting into prep fittings, and will then have to be added to the bundles (and letters turned for packets, etc.), but that is all the prep that will be needed.
Will each bundle be in sequence OR will each bundle follow on from the last?

The latter - I think? :nervous If it were the former it would defeat the purpose, surely...

We were due to have new machines in the office i am based at but these have been shelved, we thought this might happen as cut backs are in force,we have run out of money in the budget.

But the problem is that they will still try to introduce savings based in the projections of introducing the sequencing

Yes, my very thought, but how quickly is it going to be able to walk sequence each walk? I think there needs to be a lot of thought before we charge ahead with this technology. The CWU is going pell mell into accepting whatever seems to be the "in" thing but we should really be trialling these things to the nth
degree before we go ahead.

How many offices have trialled these machines and what are the results and without the flat sorting as well it is not really a goer. I have seen someone suggest it is 85% of this and 85% of that but what is the success rate?

The time for trialling and evaluation, or CWU agreements has past.
They're already here.
SO is now walk sequencing Winchester DO's mail, as an example.
Coming soon to a DO near you.. :Very Happy

Walk sequencing machines

Have found out today that implementation of Walk sequencing machines for our office has been put back from May 2009 to January 2010.The reason behind this is that management say that we are "simply not ready to implement these machines in the DO's and we need to get it right when we do". But I should mention that I've been informed by higher management that there is a 'new' machine that will sort and prep flat and flimsy items, which that you do not have to merge flats into the mail. The delay though is that the people who manufacture this machine have a waiting list already of 70 competitors who want this type of machine , and royal mail will have to join this waiting list .

apparently cant justify money spent on them until p/t = f/t 50/50
rem it only saves 10-20 min time on duties
Wasn t the walk seq. machines part of the last agreement?

True story - area rep goes to an office trialling walk sequencing machine. Never been to this office before, stands in front of fitting he has never seen before, throws off the boxes of mail which have been through these machines, does the lot in 10mins.

Did he walk home along the canal? TBH I wouldn't believe that if I saw it on You tube. We have one of two scenarios the frame was a bulk frame or there wasn't any mail.

I'd have to agree with you dvbuk because it would be hard to sort BT bills into a frame in 10 minutes and they are do come in sequence :hmmmm

Well someone I know farted on three trays of walk sequenced mail and it all drifted into the right slots instantly . This completely undermined all the trial results to date and the CWU might have to re-evaluate

Oh no! We will all have to eat sprouts for tea and then sort a full delivery office - no masks allowed either.
