Any other depots not got a Rep?
As its an unpaid and voluntary, and at times thankless task I am not surprised. It needs a lot of dedication and thick skin as members always seem to have good ideas after the fact. Of course if you perceive a problem you could always remedy it and put yourself forward. BTW I am not a rep, but my eyes were opened around the time of the strikes and pegasus implementation.

We haven't got a Union Rep, our guy quit not long after the strikes and i don't blame him, unfortunatley he was banging his head against a brick wall with the majority of the people at our place who seem to think management know best and that they have their best interests at heart!!!

The Union needs desperately to negotiate an agreement with Rm that will give some real release time to reps(not just when it suit RM) those that work in delivery offices know how hard it is to get your walk/drive done, let alone be the the office rep and be at the members and managers beck and call. The days of two delivery's, were there was time to do the reps job are long gone.

Any other depots not got a Rep?
It is quite easy to forget how much work and time a rep puts in. I must admit I used to be a rep years ago but found that once the closed shop finished the job became really hard.
Perhaps in a bigger office it doesn't matter but in a smaller office where the staff is split roughly 50-50 between union and non union members it is a thankless task. It is easy to say keep fighting but sometimes the decisions from up top make it that much harder to convince the younger members of staff to fight for their future.

A thankless task and not one thats going to get any easier, as the company employes more and more part timers. At our place all the older lads who have recently retired were all union members, new commers nearly always from abroad, dont seem too keen to rock the boat in any way. I really think last octobers effort was probably the last hurrah for a (nearly) solid stand in my place. The final capitulation after alot of sacrifice, and stupid inaccuracies from union hq throughout which hampered action means further disputes will not be as well supported.

Any other depots not got a Rep?
When I started at RM nearly 20 years ago, the Union Rep, who was a full time worker, always did a part time delivery or a firms job, no-one seemed to mind that he had a easier job, because it was dead handy to be able to see him and get your problem sorted out, in short order.
What RM don't seem to realize is that having a good Rep in the office makes their job a lot easier, if the DOM and Rep agree and something then it's normally easier to get the office to go along with it.
We have a Rep and a committee at the moment, so we have quite a good amount of people for other to report problems to, but as others have said, PT'ers don't tend to join the union, and care even less about what happens, they forget that - the longer they stay at RM and don't join a union, then the more of their rights get taken away.

Just tell any doubters about the RM changes that are gonna be in their flavour, to ask everyone they know "How is your job and what don't you like about it?" You will be there all night listening as all other jobs went s**t years ago. Now its RM's turn IFWE LET IT.
Like some jobs I have had:
Do you remember when must be flexible meant you got paid for doing it?
Having a FULL lunch break without feeling guilty or pressured by too much work
Working Sat and Suns for most people meant time and half and/or double time.
When Sun working became law, bosses said only if people want to work it. Try getting a job at a Grotesco supermarket or Bodge it Quick’s now and say “I done wanna work Sunday”
I had one job that the boss changed to Commission only at a days notice. I told him to fox trot Oscar after legal advice
I remember when being on standby meant you got stand by allowance.
When trained on other equipment it was once classed as promotion and you got extra for it. Not now
I had a company car and was given garage and car wash allowance. Not now
From 1990 to 1994 I never got a pay rise
When the company went tits up after 100 odd years in 1995 they underfunded the pension by 6 million and are still having it investigate 13 years later
Now at Royal Snail YOU AINT SEEN NOTHING YET
Stand up and be counted. Don’t give in without a fight
PASS IT ON
