In that case why dont you go the whole hog and advise him to use his car, make his bags heavier than their supposed to be and miss out his meal relief. :arrrghhh :arrrghhh
All these would make him quicker. We need to give new recruits the right sort of advice that is'nt going to jeopardize their job in the long run.

In our office you would be sacked on the spot for taking all your D2D home as it is classed as live mail. Workers have been disciplined for being caught with a few D2D's in morning bag checks - one wonders what would happen if hundreds were being brought in of a morning. That's not being bloody minded or militant mate, it's been instructed to us numerous times in WTLL sessions as Royal Mail policy, and is included in guidelines posted around the office on wilful delay.

Mr Blonde wrote:To do the D2D's quicker you can do what I do, if they're under your fitting on a saturday take them home, sit down in front of the telly and prep them together and you only have to deliver one lot then rather than three. I'm sure this suggestion will make some people here shudder but I find that it helps me immensely and being on the same job I always sort them into the gaps after I've prepped on a monday morning and then keep a handful on the back of my bundle whilst delivering so I take the rest where I'm going.

As for the walks, well years ago I often went for a sunday afternoon drive to familiarise myself with the area but thats not the case anymore when you can open a browser and look it it from above thanks to Live Earth or Google Earth.

I hope this is a help.

Good luck!
I can see why you do it but you aint doing the rest of us no favours. If you aint got the time in RM's time then they should take work off you. You must like working for nowt! :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

Lets get one thing straight, I don't like delivering D2D's. I just like to get rid of as many as possible on a monday and then with the remainder in the fitting I can take them as I go to those other houses trhroughout the week. It makes my job easier. If it suits the original poster and it's acceptable to the managers in his office then it will help him do the job quicker and ease any hassle he might get.

Lisitng common sense rules might win brownie points with the militants on here but it won't help him do his job quicker.

I would say at least half of our office take their dtds home to prep, then again more than half the office use their own cars and come in up to an hour early to throw in their walks :pray

And neither will making stupid suggestions that might cost him his job in the long run. No mail whether junk mail, bread and butter (D2Ds) should be taken home period. As others have intimated it ain't worth getting caught. It's not what is acceptable to the manager what counts, it is about doing the job properly and working within stated guidelines i.e. 20% D2Ds prepped daily at work. The vast majority of delivery posties hate doing D2Ds but albeit they are a source of extra income to boost the old pay packet.

Any of the brothers and sisters heard if the CWU & RM Letters are any nearer in reaching a new D2D Agreement yet!

I too take d2d home and along with lots of others in the office, but before doing this, I ask the duty managers, and they had no problem with it, the problem with doing it at work, is time, where do you find the time to fit this in? I don't start till 8am, ok some of the guys do it when they come back or perhaps do some of first thing in the morning, but who wants to sit at the frame and do d2d, especially when it heavy on some days? I find it quite relaxing doing it at home, and sometimes, but I agree we shouldn't really be doing any thing to do with work at home  the only other way around this, I suppose would be to cut off at your correct time, and used this time to do d2d, but the thing with this, is less money, I am on a contract of 30 hours a week, which isn't enough to lived on these days, I do an extra 10 hours a week to make up for it and by doing the d2d at home, all I have to do is throw some on to each row per day, which doesn't take too long to do, and than at the end of the week, I can look forward to a normal wage plus the d2d on top of it too. but to be honest, I am really not looking for advice on d2d :chuckle

Cannot for the life of me understand why you dont prep the 20% your supposed to in your prep time before you go out.I've got around 600 calls and get 3 lots a week but it only takes 15 mins a day to prep. You should then be leaving the office 15 mins a day later than your doing now,but getting paid for it if you decide to stay out and do them.
On the monday or tuesday when its generally lighter deliver the d2ds at the very end of your walk, that way wed, thurs & fri you do the rest at the beginning and middle of the delivery but can still cut off the end of the walk if you want to without effecting the d2ds.
Doing it your way your giving RM an hour a week unpaid when you could be just adding it to your ot payments

Also not wishing to stir things up but how do you prep D2Ds at home. We are not allowed to insert them into each other at my DO and as has been said before they are counted as live mail here as well so they don't let us take them home either.

My 20% I do by taking out 20% of each bag each day as this spreads the weight out rather than concentrating it on one or 2 bags - however you have to know the walk well to be able to do it and you have to note what you have done just in case you go sick and the cover guys wants to do some.

That's what I thought...do you take your RM2000 home aswell? I thought prepping them was putting them in the slots! I throw up 25% every day (as I get a day off every week and would end up only doing 80% most weeks). Sometimes, If I'm in the mood, and depending on what my day off is that week, I'll throw up the lot on a monday morning, and just take out to those houses that have mail anyway, leaving the rest in my frame. Obviously can't do this if I'm off on the tuesday.

The only time I've took door to door's home is when I've had a few spare and just binned them, which I'll never do again having read on here that they are treated as regular mail.
