We must all work to rule

Post by Phantom »

6 part timers in my office have had their hours increased this week from 30 to 36 due to working to rule and cutting off, they cut off for 4 weeks and RM had no choice but to increase their contractual hours.

I personally have now used up my "banked hours" on overtime on my own walk, its only took a week to clear and i will be cutting off from w/c 22-9-08 :Very Happy

The managements intention for banked hours was to use them against sick leave and to cover walks this has failed and most of the banked hours have slipped away due to high volumes of mail. The two managers at my office tried to stop us from using our banked hours for our overtime and wanted to pay us instead but we all refused and said we would cut off if thats was the case so they had no option but to cancel out our banked hours. Foolish managers. Now they face huge cut offs from next week. :dance

your right.royal mail have got themselves into a hole.they have temporary amnesia regards to busy days noting only the quiet ones.as we now come into a sustained period of high volume most people in my office actually work over their hours for the majority of time.the problem myself and others have if you state you are working to youtr time is you automatically get prep rate tests,o/t is scriutinised with a fine tooth comb ,so that some people will not book,as they dont think its worth the hassle.sticking together is the only way to get royal mail to listen.well done .

Yes they will prep test you, buts its only for 1 minute, its all part of the harrassment plan to get you to back down, at my office cut offs have been on the increase for the last 10 years and i'm afraid its the only way forward now. RM need to pay the price for the true cost of delivery, they've had it easy for years and it needs to stop NOW!.

Stop using cars to work from, they are not pouch drops!
Weigh bags according to the pouch matrix, the matrix is on the CWU site.
Carry one bag at a time.
Take your break.
Do not do any work for RM outside your contractual hours.
Pouch off times are built in to delivery.
Do not use your personal mobile phone for any RM work.

You have made a valid point Phantom,as I have stopped using my car since July and have had a need to use my mobile to contact drivers.
The problems are that the workload is so heavy and takes a lot longer by cycle/trolley and that without the support of most of my colleagues it is a battle with management every day.

Gradually they are stopping using cars but between 50%-60% still use cars, some are going over their time to do the extra bits and don't get paid,as well as not taking their meal relief,so we have a monumental task to turn this office around.

Please DONT "work to rule" as it can be classed as a form of industrial action.....just do the job properly and then you have no problems

I think what he meant was don't call it a "Work to Rule" as this can be construed by management as unoficial and therefore illegal industrial action, especially if you encourage others to do the same. However, if you are just promoting the Unions scheme as shown below, or are informing an inexperienced member of staff in their rights and Royal Mails obligations, there is nothing they can do.

I wish it would happen, but I doubt it ever will, people still coming in up to an hour before there start time, not taking breaks, taking all there bags out in cars,we are supposed to wait till 9 for p/timers and 10 for f/timers,but 1 full timer was seen getting on to a van at 9 while everybody else had to wait ,when the dom was asked about this he replied,he's not got his car and is doing extra!!,people doing there own rounds and completing half of another walk on o/t before some have even finished there first walks. Some walks take 2hr 30 others take over 4 hours,we have 1 floater was hasn't done a walk in ages (favoritism).Lets go to the moon, its more likely to happen then getting the majority of selfish greedy cretins that I have the misfortune to work with to do their job properly.

I thought the banked hours thing was only for unusually heavy postings? Not for everyday running.

yes, our area manager was acting dum last week, and see 50 cut offs come in on wednesday. he called the area union rep and said that he was inciting industrial action, he replied "the are only doing what you have asked them to"
we have had alot of questions for our rep at our office regarding finish timesand cutting off etc, but all we have been told is do as they ask you. and we have. the result? 50 cutoff bags, york full of packets and 3 days worth of mail left in frames.

As regards to doing the job properly, it seems that everyone wants to do it now theres nothing left for us to rush for. but im happy, it means that now we can trully show how impossible it is to do our existing job without lapsing and extra work put on us.

STICK TOGETHER LADS, WE WILL WIN THIS.
