The induction is counted as a working day so unless you quit straight after yes you will be paid for however long the induction is slated to last for. I would check your paperwork to see how long it is mine was 4 hours I think.

The overtime questions is a little difficult to answer. If you are doing it and you are not claiming what you are not working ie it took you 1 hours and you claim 2 you should be paid it. However, RM are trying to cut back on OT at the moment and the manager may question you each time you claim it, but stick to your guns and you will be alright.

Also if your on a duty and claim overtime on it everyday, you may then get tested to see if you are doing it correctly. I would warn you though when you do start working for RM make sure you keep your own record of hours worked so that you can verify they have paid you correctly.

Oh and join the Union as well, if problems occur they can be a god send.

The Postie over time will then probably give you bits and pieces to do on your own. A road, then maybe 1/4 the walk, 1/2 the walk, to get you used to the job. I did this for a couple of weeks but apparently it should last longer.
Of course, all this is what should happen. But from what I've read on here, I was lucky to get 2 weeks shadowing and 2 weeks on my own walk as others seem to get sent out on their own straight away.

leave off, i had 2 days, and even then the lazy git gave me half the walk to do on my first day and he f*cked off straight away. he gave me all the d2d items, which were newspapers and very heavy, to do on my second day, but when your new, you dont know so you crack on.

My advice to you is ask people around you if your unsure on anything. when i was new, id start a walk and not know where the drop points were or where a walk was and things like that, but you have to ask if your unsure. and dont trust managers.

I started in Feb, my contact hours are 8 to 2, I am a bit concern they are starting you at 9, that crazy, I find it hard starting at 8, never mind 9, the problem with that is all the sorting is done really early, so by the time you come in, most of the posties will be out or nearly finishing prepping there frames, I didn't get a postie shadowing me, we have coach/trainers, and you only get this for a week, than the next week, you be on your own, and at times you be on different walks because you are new, but to start off, they should ask you come in at 6, so that you can get used to things, we have a few new guys start last week, and they are starting at 6 and booking 2 hours over time in the morning, and if you wish you can extend in the afternoon, but you don't have to work past your contract hours, although been new, managers can be a bit funny with newbies, if you getting any problems, see your union rep, good luck.

You get paid the same week you start, but this will be for your basic hours of working for that week. When I started I did my induction on a Tuesday and then worked wed, thurs, fri, and sat. I got paid my 20hr contract wage and got overtime for the induction the week after (as my induction lasted 8 hrs too). I'm now on a 30hr contract which is great as I get to throw my own round in.

In respects to your overtime, you will prob be claiming it everyday for first couple of weeks (if this xmas anythin like last when I started) but once you been there and if ya on same route you'll be expected to be finishing within your time unless it a heavy day or van delayed bringing ya mail.
