12 months left to retirement and then off to sunny Devon for me. Chances are, Labour will lose next election, Tories will get in then RM will be sold piece by piece and all this will be hot air - much like the steam from those SW flasks. Unions are dead in this country, in case anyone hadn't noticed. Brown and Labour are broke and country in debt so they won't spend money on anything other than sweetener winter allowances that no one will get unless temperature dips for extended periods. Not much left to sell either. Its all gone - even the cheap gas. Marching up and down to "hands off our post" will look good on the CWU CV but thats all it will be. They're already on to BT now and Hayes keeping his eye open for a better job. The few forms of action left are just to keep members happy and encourage them to pay their dues. CWU lost heaps of members and still struggling to recruit new ones. Says it all.

Spitting Image used clever sattire, just as many Comedians have done for some considerable time. And I agree, that we have all made jokes about them ourselves.Night Tonic wrote:Why is there no need to poke fun at political parties? It served spitting image very well. This site has ALWAYS done that. No sense in breaking the habit of a lifetime. The difference is that people don't like it when its the party they support. In any event, resistance to the post means what? We've got three main parties who all back the EU. Work out the odds from that.
What I meant, was: When we are trying to discuss how to solve such a serious situation. It's better to give constructive criticism, which might be adopted by one of the Opposition Parties. Than stick to jokes, about the ineptitude of certain Parties.
Sorry, if I caused any offence.

your debating skills seem to hinge around night tonic and your goodself taking the piss out of the wolfies as you like to put it. i put up 2 interesting articles that you said you couldnt be arsed to read and you both then replied with humerous put downs of the SWP. my articles are examples of the excessives of the Capitalist system and how people at the top can enrich themselves even when companies etc are being badly managed. the US has announced an unprecedented banking bail out, with taxpayers taking on 1 trillion dollars of bad mortgage debts. this is a system that privatises profit and then nationlises debt.Mr Hornby the CEO of HBOS, surprisingly !! has kept his 2 million a year job when many of his 72000 workers now face the prospect of the sack. allegedly this is the man that presided over the demise of one of the greatest names in British business . now i am not sure if you two are defenders of the Capitalist system, Night Tonics argument seems to revolve around the fact that there is not a lot we can do about anything, but i think we should hold these people to account ??Tman wrote:Ah well, another debate ended in the same old way.borders wrote:are you two a double act ?, you are hilarious !!!!![]()

Best thing any postman/woman can do is make the job to suit themselves without overstepping the mark, ie: don't give anything to RM for free.
Work the hours you are contracted and paid for - this doesn't mean you have to complete your job this is not your worry put the ball back in the managers court!
If you finish your job within or under the contractual hours then this is not your problem either, you are paid to work not manage!
Work at a reasonable pace, no slow timing though - remember it doesn't pay to be quick and efficient - phase 3 put at stop to that!
Walk for 3 1/2 hours and no longer outdoors with 15 mins travel and 15 mins pouch off time (town walks) - 3 1/2 hours is the MAXIMUM you walk whether delivery is completed or not!
Don't stress out, its not worth it. Stand back and watch managers running about like headless chickens trying to protect their bonuses.
Phase 3 has made a lot of staff in my office grow a pair of bollocks and i'm thankfull for that
Enjoy the weekend ladies and gents

This is (in my opinion) where a lot of our problems lie. As I said earlier: No one Political Party, has all the answers. What we really need, is for us to have a good balance. But there are so few people these days, who are willing to take the trouble to read opposing opinions, with an open mind.borders wrote:your debating skills seem to hinge around night tonic and your goodself taking the piss out of the wolfies as you like to put it. i put up 2 interesting articles that you said you couldnt be arsed to read and you both then replied with humerous put downs of the SWP. my articles are examples of the excessives of the Capitalist system and how people at the top can enrich themselves even when companies etc are being badly managed. the US has announced an unprecedented banking bail out, with taxpayers taking on 1 trillion dollars of bad mortgage debts. this is a system that privatises profit and then nationlises debt.Mr Hornby the CEO of HBOS, surprisingly !! has kept his 2 million a year job when many of his 72000 workers now face the prospect of the sack. allegedly this is the man that presided over the demise of one of the greatest names in British business . now i am not sure if you two are defenders of the Capitalist system, Night Tonics argument seems to revolve around the fact that there is not a lot we can do about anything, but i think we should hold these people to account ??Tman wrote:Ah well, another debate ended in the same old way.borders wrote:are you two a double act ?, you are hilarious !!!!![]()

Personally, I'm a Socialist. But I listen to, and read, Capatilist material. And the fact is, that there are a lot of good points, to Capitalist ideals. Having said that: There are also a great deal of bad points. But, neither is Socialism perfect. Even when Countries have gone as far as Communism. There have still been an "Elite", who live in luxury. While the rest of the Population, are all equally poor.
I challenge ANYONE to show me someone, who thinks that there is ANY Political Party (however small), that has a complete answer. Because I will then, show you a deluded individual.

Well, I agree, they do have a lot of the answers. But even they, don't have the whole answer.
For example: What are their policies on the long term health of the Economy?
Or on the NHS?
I'm not trying to knock them. But the fact is, that a complete answer to the problems of our Country, and Society. Is so complex, that I seriously doubt, that ANY Political Party, will EVER work it out. Each one (with a few notable exceptions) has a well thought out solution to one, or more of our problems. But in my opinion, none of them can cope with everything.
Back when I was at School, we ended up with the "Winter of discontent", and the Tories got in. Because they convinced the majority of the Public, that they could sort out the Economy, and get people back into work. But once they started running out of things to sell off, the bubble burst. We then ended up with New labour, and things got even worse. Because they claimed to be a better version of Old Labour. And couldn't pull it off. Worse still, they had an Opposition Party, who really didn't differ much in their ideals.
My point is, that each Party had solutions to specific problems, but had a bad effect on other parts of Society and the Economy. How is it possible to balance everything, and have a good standard of living for everyone. Without damaging the Economy, or the Environment?
I have no idea. I doubt anyone ever will work it out. I can only hope, that we can end up with a good enough combination of Prime Minister, and Leader of the Oppositon. So that we can work on the current problems, without creating too many other problems, in the process.

Well put Andy. Even where you do get a well meaning minister or party, they soon discover that its business that runs the country, not politics, and all the grand ideas go up in smoke.

The main problems are greed and selfishness - i want, i want, i want from every walk in society and thats the only thing we all have in common

You certainly hit the nail on the head there,"its business that runs the country" ,and it's not doing it very well is it? I guess when you said" not politics' you meant not politicians cos you can't get much more political than being ruled by a corporate dictatorship.Night Tonic wrote:Well put Andy.
