CYCLISTS rode around West Sussex to celebrate the life of their friend and colleague who died in a road collision earlier this year.
The 25-mile circular trip started from Worthing Pier last Sunday morning (September 14), to remember Nick Attaway, 57, who was killed when he fell from his bike into the path of a van near Horsham on July 27.
Around 25 of Nick's friends took part in the event, which included a stop for lunch at the Frankland Arms in Washington to share memories of the postman and keen cyclist from Sunningdale Road, Durrington.
Organiser Brian Middleton said: "The ride went very well. It was a lovely atmosphere with people sharing their memories of Nick and wishing he was there, which of course he was, in spirit.
"There was a toast made to Nick at the pub and I believe that he will be remembered for three things: a listening ear, a kind word and a helping hand."
Because of the event's success, Brian hopes to do it again next year to raise money for charity.
Later that day, a small group of Nick's friends and family went to Cissbury Ring to scatter his ashes.
Brian said: "We gathered in a circle, said a few words each, and scattered some of Nick's ashes in a place off the beaten track, which was a beautiful and poignant moment and befitting of the man."
