I've lost tons of weight (not that I'm fat, mind you, normally), all helped by the fasting!

This job is great because (no sarcy comments, posties, please!) :Very Happy :

1. You get to meet people face-to-face, i.e. do community service
2. You get fresh air and the ability to move around
3. Once you're out - you're the manager and free to do the job as you please (as long as you get it done)
4. Everyone needs and looks out for the postman
5. No two days are alike, although there is some predictability built-in to the job
6. LOOONG weekends!
7. When a parent stands at the door while their little kids totters up, smiles and gingerly takes the mail from you. Awww!
8. You get to survey your city (if you do different walks each week), so you really get a feel about what is happening on the ground, in the business, voluntary and residential sectors: In essence, you have the licence of the Police, a nurse, a CSO, a social worker etc. without all of the legislative headaches that go along with the respective roles.
9. Everyone talks to the postman.

Now compare that to an office job, or any other type of job, for that matter... being a postman rocks!

Difficult to add to that!!

Totally agree, love the fresh air and you couldn't pay for this amount of exercise.

And you see that little kid grow up, go to school & get married and over the years you have become friends only because you have been the postman. Some things about this job are priceless. :Applause

The time has come for union.

No doubt - fresh air and exercise cant beat it. Got to be careful when you retire though weight can fly on.

As a relative newcomer to royal mail (2 1/2 years) i dont think i will ever be able to experience things like that. this job is nothing like it used to be, when a postman was respected and trusted. The way the management are trying to carve up our and rearrange our jobs, we wont be doing the sam ejob as people did years ago.

Granted. I think that belongs in the forum about "what do you dislike about being a postie"...
