exactly - the parcel and courier firms charge extra for saturday as they've got Joe Public over a barrel - they also deliver early as people would rather get it over and done with instead of waiting indoors .steviemac wrote:if we are to be a commercially run business then use our 6day delivery as a selling point and not 'dumb down' the service. Don't we all work a 5 day week anyway with either a day off or every 6th week off depending on office structure. Let the rest of europe raise their game to match ours and anyway it's the british right indeed duty to show the rest of europe they are wrong and we are right!!
There is cynical dumbing down and negative unimaginative managed decline .
Nice to see RMC back up - better than that "other site " that "coincidentally " resurrected itself - they seem to be terrified of RM >

FIVE DAY WEEK
Hate to disappoint the majority but if a day was to go why is the assumption that it will be Saturdays, why not Tuesdays or Wednesdays ?
Confused... You won't be, after the next episode of. SOAP

FIVE DAY WEEK
This may have been posted elsewhere but I'll tell you about our office. We work a six day week for five weeks, effectivly banking 40 hours, This time is taken on the sixth week. This method gives us an extra 9 full weeks a year off on top of our annual leave, It's much better than having a Wednesday or Thursday off eacfor week. This is how some guys make use of this system:-Work weeks 1 to 4,take week 5 as annual leave and week six as Rota. This means if you are entitled to 5 weeks annual leave you could work this system over 30 weeks (working 4 weeks and having 2 weeks off). During the rest of the year you are softill due another 4 Rota weeks i.e work 5 then 1 off.I hope this makes sense.I Know some people like or indeed need to work their days off, but I feel our sysyem gives quality time at home. Also we sometimes get the chance to work our Rota week, over the six days thats 48 hours OT. Best of both worlds really,

we also work this pattern in our office ie work 5 weeks and bank the hours for the sixth week off works great especially as at the moment we are up s..t creek with staffing so can work it if we wish ,with reguards to a five day working week i spoke not so long ago to our area manager about this and his reply was he could never see us not doing a delivery on a saturday as its about the 4th busiest day of the week plus companies like amazon and the big players would nt be to impressed what he could see was us having a 5 day week with a sunday and monday off. we shall see!

we should be protecting f/t jobs period.if the uso goes then rural areas will most probably go to 3/4 deliveries a week.we would be turkeys voting for christmas if mon to friday kicks in(cash incentive if it goes to a vote).royal mail are very keen to follow the dutch.flexibility there is p/t workforce that has a minimum contract, used when quiet, flex up when busy.f/t will be obsolete no longer required.
