I couldn't immediately find anything about Mailsort I or II specifically on www.royalmailgroup.com, www.royalmail.com or www.cwu.org.uk but here's the CWU's stance on Mailsort III (as of December 2004): http://tinyurl.com/barneymcgrew: It demonstrates that it is not necessary for Mailsort III to be delivered every day (it does not meet the criteria for the Universal Postal Service) - see section 11.

Round trip 12

Post by majeed »

Very nice day: got out of the house at five twenty and reached the office for five thirty five; threw in a line of D2D's; after throwing in my walk, did all of the kill offs for my walk and most of kill offs for the adjacent walk then went out to city centre with a driver to deliver a York of returned electorate information returns to city hall; got back to office and did a few more kill-offs from adjacent walk - went out with driver shortly afterwards and started walk. First letter 10.15; last letter 13.30 then a bit of overtime two districts away for one hour twenty minutes and got back into the house at about ten past four - a round shift of almost twelve hours. Washed and done prayers and waiting for breaking fast - might have a snooze first! :Very Happy

It's strange you should say that: it's been completely all over the place in our office. People ask me to make estimations of how longer it's going to take to get to X spot on my walk this week, and I have no idea from one day to the next: especially with not getting out some days until 10.00am.

Well after Wednesday today was a lot easier. 1 less bag not too many packets and only 3 bulbs - all done now. However did have little note from Scotish Power saying that residents free bulbs were on the way. ImageImageImageImageImage

Beautiful North

Post by majeed »

Just as Google Earth showed - no clouds: just glorious sunshine, with a wonderful breeze. Bags were light - practically no bulbs in sight. Started at 6.00am; finished at 2.00pm. Threw-in my own frame in office and alpha-sorted mail for adjacent frame, ready for throwing-in - also sorted and tidied-up light bulbs on adjacent frame waiting to go out and D2D's. At end of shift, lads saw me waiting for bus and drove me down to the delivery office; deposited pink pouch, walked home and now sitting under fan while waiting to break fast at 7.23pm. :Very Happy

Started 7.15, finished 13.15, I get paid 7.45 till 13.45 but I don't mind coming in a bit earlier if I know I will finish a little earlier. I'm Part Time and on a different round each week, sure sometimes I'll work 5mins extra, sometimes I'll gain 5 mins. The strange thing is on many occassions i've done overtime on this round when the usual full time postman cuts off.
I must be one of the few postmen who really likes his job. I know it's not the good old days but I've come from a factory, working 60 hour weeks sat at a desk performing the same task. I'm now doing half the hours for more pay. Hopefully another good day tomorrow.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Ooooh! Poor, poor thing! A ton load of MS3 magazines would have been a better fate! Your parcel bag(s) must have been overflowing this morning! Get your feet up and have a nice cup of tea.
