Urgent need for resistance in the post
That billionaire guy (Falcone I think) has made his money betting that the banks value was over inflated on the back of loaning money to people who could and never would haave the resources to pay it back. To blame one person who legally made a judgement and essentially gambled his/other people's money on it to me is not a crime in itself.
unfortunately, there will be few people who actually commited a crime under law to create this whole mess. The underlying factor that drove this was greed. I know someone who managed to purchase a property even though he had bad debts, didn't have a job and didn't even realise there was stamp duty to pay. These are the people both here and elsewhere who thought they could live a lifestyle outside of their means. The governments relaxed regulations to allow free market thinking. Bankers/brokers etc. played the game. etc. etc.
What I am saying is that everyone got involved. To blame one person or alan Greenspan is unfair in my opinion. Alan Greenspan did not by himself cause this, and neither did this billionaire guy, and neither did Adam & alan, or Mike Ashley.
Whilst we are on it neither capitalism, socialism, comunism or any other ism causes these problems, it is people and for once it might be worth reading the ten commandments, and take heed of the 7 deadly sins.
It comes down to individuals taking responsibility

I think Borders was just using an example to highlight the obscene nature and sheer absurdity of the system we currently live in.
I quite agree with you that the problem should not be viewed in terms of 'personality's',however as figureheads/spokespeople/apologists for a system of economic organization that is collapsing around us,it is natural that criticism will be focused.
Can't really see how you can excuse this capitalist system from this one Fozz. Capitalism, demanded deregulation, liberalization, hedge funds, short selling, venture capital, got it all and failed. Now the fat cats want me and you to pick up the bill. Another £22 billion of taxpayers cash handed over to the bankers today in GB, also in New York ,Singapore,Tokyo,Frankfurt etc.
I'm all for throwing the moneylenders out of their temples

"Whilst we are on it neither capitalism, socialism, comunism or any other ism causes these problems, it is people and for once it might be worth reading the ten commandments, and take heed of the 7 deadly sins." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- as far as i am a aware we have never had socialism on a world scale , we have capitalism on a world scale. there is more than a trillion dollars changing hands every day on a world scale , only one per cent of this quantity [10 billion a day] is for transactions of world trade, - 99 per cent of monetary transactions are purely speculative. the chap mentioned in a sense is obviously doing nothing wrong, he is just gambling / trading and taking advantage of the stock market.otherwise what would be the point of the stock market ?

Well politics or not, the March on Monday is the tail end of a lost battle in my view. The SWP's, local MPs and just about anyone who seeks to be seen to be grasping the nettle of politics will put their face in but as always, they ALL disappear from wherever they came from as soon as theres no ball to kick about, leaving posties to fend for themselves. Solidarity in the wider sense is an illusion. Hayes also knows only too well that another big strike would cost the union more than it can afford and the general public would soon back a "sell the lot and be done with it", just to get the post sorted. The pay and modernisation agreement sealed it. Anything that crops up now is like the few left over from the previous nights pissup party.

The Wolfies are always good at exhorting "the workers" to act, but not much good at anything else, and that includes moral or financial support, passing the hat around, or even getting out of bed when it's cold, dark or early. They seem to exist now purely to write drab nonsensical articles about the state-run organisations like RM, NHS, etc, although presumably they would get even more ridicule were they to spout out thier out-moded philosophy on some private concern.
Funny how the irony of going on about "parasites" always passes them by.
We had about 5 - 10 SWP members appear on everyone of our pickets last year, they always brought hot foot and drinks in the early morning and a woman brought free sandwiches round at about dinner time. They were also the most vociferous at name calling when the bosses turned up. They also did a collection which went into the hardship fund. SO locally the SWP appear to have bucked the trend, or perhaps as you do not agree with their politics you are following your historical trend.

Maybe they've raised their game since the days of one duffel-coated eejit turning up and spouting well-worn and trite phrases like "capitalist running dogs", "bosses' lackeys" and "comrade" then?We had about 5 - 10 SWP members appear on everyone of our pickets last year, they always brought hot foot and drinks in the early morning and a woman brought free sandwiches round at about dinner time. Or maybe, just like that other shower the Lib-Dems, they know they can promise and cajole as much as they like, as they're never going to be in a position to implement any of it?
Wasters the lot of 'em. Offer very little that's new or workable, and deliver even less. I would describe them as idealistic dreamers, but I don't think they're even as good as that.

Let us know what their policies are then
Specially the bits you consider unworkable.
Wouldn't be good to leave yourself open to accusations of blind prejudice and sweeping inaccurate generalization would it

I am sure you can update us all on all thier view's and form a bond with them all when you are on strike from 0600 the 23/9/08 to 0600 on the 26/9/08!. Or are you working in that period.Tman wrote:Maybe they've raised their game since the days of one duffel-coated eejit turning up and spouting well-worn and trite phrases like "capitalist running dogs", "bosses' lackeys" and "comrade" then?We had about 5 - 10 SWP members appear on everyone of our pickets last year, they always brought hot foot and drinks in the early morning and a woman brought free sandwiches round at about dinner time. "Bond with them"? I won't be striking and they won't be there, so not much chance of that.
I haven't seen the Wolfies for years (not even on hard manoveures handing out that absorbent bog paper in the precinct on a Saurday afternoon) though I'm sure both of them have some coursework to do, and that will be more important than supporting a few down-trodden ROMEC workers.
