Some how because of the rule,it was agreed that the overtime should drop after a certain amount of hours![]()
We are if i'm not mistaken NOT ALLOWED to work longer than 48hrs, which is why we sign the opt out at Xmas.
Which curiously we did not do in our office this yearI've just remembered that!
Why and how it was agreed is beyond me.
Also you're supposed to have a break of a certain amount of time between shifts, but that's gone out of the window as well.
So for all those doing mass docket,RM is breaking the law.

Overtime is still voluntary and NO ONE will be made to work over there contracted hours per week.

Interestingly it does say in my contract "...it is a condition of your employment that you are liable to work overtime... as the needs of the service demand." so maybe it is possible to be forced to do overtime

I dont think so friend,we have members at our place who opt out of the xmas pressure by puting it in writing a few weeks before we start.Trouble is they end up doing the work for nothing in the past, may be different this year though.

OVERTIME/less money more u do?
I gave up doing overtime ages ago,as you are effectively prostituting yourself as casual labour over 40 hours.
Those who do large amounts of docket in my experience are the cnuts who will do anything including selling their grandmother for a couple of hours, and are usually found sniffing around the DUM like a dog on heat to make sure nobody else gets in first.
Perhaps if overtime was paid at double rate it would be worth doing a few hours occasionally.
Doing large docket leads to a short term increase in wages, which in turn leads to an increase in spending, further leading to a dependancy on the docket for sustainability......you are now hooked on docket and will be at the DUM's beck and call for anything he needs doing, when you feel like telling him to fcuk off!
Get rid of the docket, get rid of the need, live to your means and tell the DUM to stick it where the sun don't shine,I do it every day and it feels great watching the mugs.

Why did the union agree to the current pay deal, i.e, we get paid less for doing more?

You talk about time-and-a-half (which is an recognised practice): my wage slip shows that we get time-minus-a-fifth for overtime over ten hours.
Two questions:
(a) Is the idea to encourage us to work less?
(b) Can these hours be reallocated elsewhere, i.e. towards other staff members?

I think they wanted to have less reliance on overtime but when your pay does not keep up with inflation it's a fat lot of good to us all!.majeed wrote:You talk about time-and-a-half (which is an recognised practice): my wage slip shows that we get time-minus-a-fifth for overtime over ten hours.

Help
I do overtime to help out. It also helps with the small basic I take home each week. It's a nice feeling to help managers and posties alike out of a tight spot.
