Unfortunately with the Pay and Modernisation agreement as a whole recognising "Local" agreements it would not be possible to list what a Manager can and cant make you do.

However there are certain things they will never be able to do:

1. Force you to work overtime. (Paid on Unpaid)
2. Force you to work before your contracted start and finish times. (until banking or annualised hours anyway)
3. Force you to use your own vehicle.
4. Force you to take unsafe shortcuts.
5. Force you to carry than 1 pouch out with you.
6. Force you to carry overloaded bags.

You mentioned streamlining which managers think is the answer to eveything on a a busy day. If they instruct you to streamline then do so, but if you still think that this will mean you cannot complete in time, and you do not want the Overtime, then inform them as such and they have to make a decision. If they instruct you to take it make sure you have a contact phone number to call them at a pre-arranged time, or get them to call you, when you can advise them whether or not you can complete.

check out this page on my blog which has the agreement in full posted on it: http://overpaidunderworked.blogspot.com ... y-and.html

Is there actually an agreement, stating that they can leave 3rd Class Mail behind?!?!
What if it's 3rd Class Deferred?
If it is, and you don't deliver it, when it's supposed to be. RM will be fined, as the whole point of having 3rd Class Deferred. Is so that a large Mailing can arrive everywhere on the same day, no matter where it is in the Country. :evil/mad

I know that we now have the new "Day Certain" Mailings, which are 2nd Class. But that doesn't mean that we should ignore our commitments to our 3rd Class Deferred Customers! :evil/mad :arrrghhh

The agreement on SDD states that MS3 can be left on a Saturday if the |DO is SDD compliant.
Saturday attendances will be significantly shorter than weekday attendances. To assist this Mailsort 3 need not be scheduled for delivery

Every DO by now should be SDD compliant. But from memory to become SDD compliant you had to have no 2nd Delivery, 5 day working pattern with 40 hours - (used to be 6 days with 42hours in my DO) and all sorts of other stuff but as SDD is 5 years old now its only the MS3 which really applies.

BTW SDD available in downloads section.

Mailsort 3 accounts for so little mail that it's hardly worth not sorting and delivering it on Saturdays.
Make it first class and special delivery only and then "Saturday attendances will be significantly shorter than weekday attendances".

Third class mail?? Can you buy third class stamps? I have honestly not heard of third class mail. As far as I know there is First and Second, but I don't even look, I sort and deliver everything every day. Are you saying you leave letters in your frame until the next day?

I've heard of Mailsort through this forum but don't really know what it is. Some mail is pre-sorted into walks and comes in a tray, is that Mailsort?

I think I was told once that you have two days to deliver Sky mags, but I wouldn't leave any in case the next day is heavy, the Sky mags would make it worse.

Mailsort, is Business Post. It can be 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Class. There is also Presstream, which is for Magazines, Journals, etc.. It can be 1st or 2nd Class. And finally, there is STL (Stamped Traffic Letters). Which is for the Public to use, and can be 1st or 2nd Class.

3rd Class has a 1 Week turnaround, and has an M instead of a 1 or 2, where it's Franked.

There are of course other Services, but these are the basic types.

You learn something every day. Well, at RM you don't actually. Thanks for the info.

Thing is, how do you know how long ago the item was posted? If I have something and manage to identify it as third class with a one week turnaround, I won't know if it was posted yesterday, and have five days to post it, or if it has to go that day. Also, I've been told to clear my frame every day, never to leave anything in it. I assume Door to Doors don't count. I often leave them in (unless it's my day of next day).

I think I'll just continue to post everything I get every day.

Clear frame is the way to go - Mon - Fri deliver whatever is in front of you unless you get a different instruction from your Manager.

Saturdays deliver all mail with either a 1, 2 or stamp or a DSA emblem on it. But you do not have to deliver any mail that has a
ms3.jpg
or
bb.jpg
on it unless there is an agreement with the local rep that says it has to go.
