Ok at my mail centre i am getting conflicting stories from people with regards to sa so wondering if people could enlighten me, i havent done sa ever so its new to me.

I been told that sa is done on a seniority basis. true?
If true is it given based on the entire mail centres seniority? (as opposed to competing with other ags?)
Is preference given to full timers?
And is it hard to get it, as in are there alot of people fighting for it?

A few questions in one there but hope i can get a swift response

SA is usually advertised, and applicants are dealt with in the same way as if they were applying for a Duty. So yes, Seniority is a factor.

We don't have any Part Timers where I am yet. Although we have been asked a few imes, if we want to buy down our hours (do they think we're nuts?). So I don't know if Full Timers get preferential treatment. Although, I don't see why they should.

Streamline Access Weekend Network (SAWN) SA, is hard to get. But Weekday SA, isn't usually a problem. So I assume, that the most profitable SA will also be hard to get in an MC. If I remember rightly, everyone who applied for Weekday SA last time, got it. But I'm not 100% certain.

We have a total SA repick every year or bi-yearly (I don't do SA), goes on seniority , doesn't make any difference whether full or part time (we have plenty of PT'ers) and if a duty becomes available then (I think) it can only be advertised certain times of the year (no idea why, can't get a straight answer from DOM)

we have a resign going on in our mail centre and about 40 duties i can apply for, stand a fair cahne i am hoping for more than one piece tho

I don't do SA so I'm not positive about this, but AFAIK in my MC SA is signed for after a resign of duties.
I think it is done first on seniority, but after the first allocation of one slot per week, anyone who didn't get one
gets priority on the second allocation of slots, so everyone who wants one should get at least one slot per week.
I don't think it matters whether you are FT or PT - it's apparently unlawful to discriminate, and some of our PT
staff are more senior than some of our FT.
SA slots which become vacant due to holders leaving are lapsed, and covered by OT if necessary.
If it becomes necessary to create new SA slots (they did create a few Saturday SA's on the facing tables recently)
they are advertised and allocated to the most senior applicants whether they are FT or PT.
