Star burst!
Got in at 6.00am - didn't know what walk I was on: was told I was on walk X - after I started throwing in walk X, I was asked to throw in walk Y also. My manager also told me that there was a surprise in store for me, later in the morning... he came around later and kept encouraging me to get all of walk X thrown-in, as we would going out on a "star burst" (basically, this means a walk which needs filling due to being short of a man is split between five men from different districts, and they are dropped off, do their bit and are then picked back up again and brought back to the office to do their own walks). Consequently, got first letter posted at 11.05am; last letter 3.15pm.

Readers digest
...because Readers' Digest readers are mostly closet masochists who, due to their very nature, prefer top floor flats???ad0128 wrote:why bother....could have sent everyone home and add it to tomrrow's mail

Tres light, mes amis
Very light - as in above post. Last letter 12.30. Also, there was a crime scene half-way down a main road on the walk: one businessman said the Police had been there all morning and that it was due to... a murder (well, there was a little tent erected that you could see and two policemen - one stationed at both the top and bottom of the cordoned-off area). Didn't affect me, really: I just endorsed a few items for businesses on that section of the road...bought loads of cheap chocolate and pringles rip-offs from Aldis on my way home, in anticipation of breaking mi fast this pm!

Monday not too bad, bit heavy on the packets tho. Today was easier, but with the early finish, an impossible task to finish in time. Everyone still getting used to the ips changes. Morale seems low.

MS3's
At our DO it is held back - by union agreement. When the agreement came in about six months ago (I think - pardon my memory), on a Saturday they used to stock pile the mech'ed MS3's down at the far end of the district frame, and then, more recently, I've noticed that they don't even appear on that frame any more on Saturdays. In any case, on Saturdays, we don't deliver MS3's.Sherpas Rule wrote:When I first started at RM, I was convinced that Mailsort for top floor flats was held back for a Tuesday and Saturday delivery as it used to happen so often.

That will be because the national agreement states "Mailsort is sterile on Saturdays" ,not this bit or that bit but "Mailsort"

Sterile
What does the word, "sterile" mean here? It's normally associated with clinical environments: highly unusual to see it used in this context.
BTW: I did a Google search on the term "sterile on Saturdays", but Google was unable to find anything... was that a direct quote you were using? If so, could you give us the publication (with page number) where it came from, as I would like to check it out myself. Thanks in advance.

Sterile means it's a no no ,don't even think about touching it. And believe it or not ,the quote comes direct from the RM website about the SDD agreement. As of yet still active;sorry ain't got the time to dig it out but if you are keen I promise it's there

Search hint
Thanks Bel - can you give me more of a hint as to where to look for it: I just did two preliminary searches, but didn't raise the document you were talking about. Again - a very unusual term for the particular application!
The reason why I'm asking is because you cited "Mailsort" without any qualification, in other words, the term sterile applies to Mailsorts 1,2, and 3, as far as you've indicated; you might have meant only Mailsort 3 in your previous comment, but as you didn't qualify what you said, it appears that you were talking about ALL types of Mailsort - not just type III.
