IS BROWN OUT? AND RED IN?
Gordon brown is faceing the realitily of his unpopular policy's and is now looking a pale shade of brown to go with his dress sense BEIGE!. Is now not the time to ditch GORDON BEIGE and find our union movement's true colour's a bright and inspireing shade of RED!. We need to get back to basic's and our core value's of OLD LABOUR for that is our goal for all trade-unionist's!. But who in new labour could meet our aspiration's in this desperate time of need?.

John McDonnell might actually get on the ballot paper this time and is very much pro-trade union rights: http://www.poptel.org.uk/scgn/story.php?articleID=23509. I don't think he'd win though even if Labour lose by a landslide. It'll probably end up being some sort of new Kinnock figure, someone awful like Jon Cruddas. If Labour don't do as poorly as expected, it'll probably be even worse: David Milliband.k979aaa wrote:Gordon brown is faceing the realitily of his unpopular policy's and is now looking a pale shade of brown to go with his dress sense BEIGE!. I have a feeling that despite all the pundits saying Millets-brand is the favourite for taking over, I don't think he will. When and if Brown goes before the election they will need someone that is different from Broon and Bliar, someone more on the left wing of the party, otherwise the public will see them merely as same person different face. Whoever takes over from Broon will need the backing of the Labour movement as a whole rather than just the Parliamentary Labour Party, otherwise its a poisoned chalice and they will just be a sacrificial leader merely being Leader, in name only, for whilst they are out of power.
Question is if Labour is going down to a big defeat, who do you vote for to try a keep the ConUservatives out of power. Liberals who wants us privatised, or the Greens or a far left party who have no realistic chance.

Dont vote.
Why propogate a system that doesnt do you any good whatsoever. Elected dictatorships (democracies) dont work.

That statement is a perfect example of irony.
And to think that our union forefathers etc fought, were imprisoned, transported and often died so you could have the freedom to say it.

Don't vote
- never have not voted
Sorry I am one of those who believes that if you don't vote in an election, then really you can't complain about the outcome. In some elections I have deliberately spoilt a paper because they have to report the numbers that are spoiled. Perhaps if people who did not want to vote did that then the 3 main parties would see they are the cause of the so called voter apathy. After all who wants to vote for the main parties whose main difference is in their shade of blue rather than anything significant.

Nonsense...the reason the agreement was ratified is because people voted yes.k979aaa wrote:TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Don't vote- never have not voted

Ive voted (in a general election) once and i'll never do so again so long as the current system is in place. If everyone refused to vote, or at least demanded an abstain box on the ballot paper, the powers that be would be forced to change the system.
Does democracy really equate to a cross in a box once every 5 years? Anyone that thinks this "gives you a voice" is a mug...no offence.

If one person vote's infavour it is cast in favour ie whoever get's that vote win's if it is a tied vote the mayor has the casting vote!. If you don't vote how is anyone going to know you have not had your say!. OR ARE WE GOING DOWN THE ARMED STRUGLE ROUTE!. NOT WISE?. ASK THE PEOPLE OF NORTHEN IRELAND AND PALESTINE!.pickaname wrote:Nonsense...the reason the agreement was ratified is because people voted yes.k979aaa wrote:TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Don't vote- never have not voted

Like i said...if everyone refused to vote then a clear message would be sent to the Government. The fact that people are brainwashed into believing that voting gives them a say in how the country is run laughable. In voting we elect one of a number of dictatorships who all share the same values; to screw the working man and keep him in his place. To vote tells the powers that be that you are comfortable with this. Antonio Gramsci wrote a lot about Hegemony.k979aaa wrote:If one person vote's infavour it is cast in favour ie whoever get's that vote win's if it is a tied vote the mayor has the casting vote!. And then what? Already 40% don't vote and the government gets elected with just the votes of 27% of the whole electorate and what difference has that made? Nowt. Voting has the potential to make some difference - not voting achieves nothing.pickaname wrote:

I'll grant you though, I do laugh when I hear politicos say falling turnout is evidence of apathy. As if that is all politics comes down to. If you vote in every election but do nothing else then I think that is more evidence of apathy than someone who doesn't wait for elections to get involved in politics, ie we didn't wait around to get rid of the Tories, so we could get rid of the Poll Tax.

Really, unless you've got a John McDonnell type in your area, who has consistently opposed New Labour every step of the way, I'd go for a 3rd (or 4th!) party. Even if it lets (official) Tories in. The smaller parties, especially the Greens, get really hurt by the way the system is setup. They lose thousands in deposits when they don't get 5% of the vote. At the very least in voting for them they get to keep that money and so they can become stronger. So it is worthwhile supporting a minor party outside the big 3 even if they've got no chance in that election. The biggest parties don't have this trouble with their rich donors - who of course never anything in return for this! Labour are suffering here now though because the rich are switching to the winning team and they're running out of money.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:I have a feeling that despite all the pundits saying Millets-brand is the favourite for taking over, I don't think he will. Yes, the public might but I don't think Labour really get it and will little pressure from below, I don't think there is much chance of a left wing winner of any leadership election at the moment.

In Australia you get fined if you don't - if you have to make a statement - deliberately spoil the paper or vote for some crackpot party - look at the people who are not allowed to vote or who haven't been able to until recently - then you've all the Tinpot Despots and Banana Republics , Saddam used to get 100% poll ratings before he did the Saddam shuffle
There's been quite a few captains of industry that don't really do government unless there's money in it for them or prefer extremes of politics or at least heading that way .

To the blonde he said "Madam , I'm the Prime Minister of England
To the Brunette he asked the same question - the reply £100
Then Mr McBean asked the redhead - Her Reply - " Mr Prime Minister , If you can get my skirt as high as my taxes , my knickers as low as my daytime job wages , your JT as hard as the times we're living in now and it keep rising like the cost of petrol , keep me warmer than it is in my flat and screw me like you have done with the pensioners - then
