AN emergency motion at the Plaid conference demanded an immediate halt to the post office closure programme across Wales.
Public consultation is near an end over the latest phase of proposed closures.
The conference unani-mously backed calls on the Westminster government to change its policy of withdrawing services from the post office network.
New services should be developed and former services reinstated to make the businesses more viable, delegates said.
Plaid AM for North Wales Janet Ryder accused Labour at Westminster of ‘planning to close our communities down’.
“People were queuing up in Wrexham to sign our petition to keep them open,” she said. ‘‘Gordon Brown is going to pay a very heavy price for this.”
