do the bosses know?

Post by mailman71 »

as far as i can see in our office and reading this site every other office there are huge problems.
the biggest problem seems to be that whenever the dom's meet their bosses they dont have the bottle to tell them the real problems in their individual offices.
whoever took on the contract for these bloody lightbulbs has never taken a walk out in his or her life, ridiculous budget targets which will never work but will the dom's have the nerve to go to any meeting with their bosses and tell them i doubt it.
in short there seems to be no plan for the future except cut, cut, cut and pray the staff dig them out.

All that matters now is the bonus schemes, there is no long term plan just greed (you only have to look at the banks who gave bonuses to staff for mis-selling mortgages which has led to the current recession).

Love the light bulbs as with all mail ( I am a postie and thats what i do! ) I have a 3.5 delivery span and if i spend most of it filling out dockets for them then thats what i do. I then claim docket for the rest of the walk or cut off. See NO PROBS! Because job and finish has gone what do i care about cutting corners breaking laws and RM rules for the employer purse? Nothing! I will never again moan about supermarket DSA, light bulbs, heavy or light days, catalogues or anything else for that matter because i am out for 3.5 hours and then its MY choice what i do next go home or work the extra for pay. Makes me laugh they call this being flexible. The only difference now from a year ago is they now pay me on average 30 quid a week to do it rather than me make a bit of time one day and be happy to do a bit extra the next day for nothing. I truly think the minds that control RM are children sometimes!
RM have flexed my arse. LOL.

I know it is absolutely priceless. Job & go introduced by leighton saw posties coming in over an hour before their time, ran around and got finished before their time which suited all parties including the forgotten customer. Now posties are starting to do the job properly and they are putting in docket after docket or cutting off because they no longer have the time to complete within their time. Only RM............

:Very Happy   :Very Happy

Thats true Broxi!! Its quite ironic.. When you put it like that.. our job is becoming less stressfull no more running around like headless chickens to get finished!! more Overtime there if you want it They even want us to take compulsory meal relief before we go out!! Ok we dont finish as early... But hey! Not so stressed when you get home! sounds like a plan to me!! Let the rest just go over your head!! Got a feeling :cfo and :lfo might be back tracking soon!! :cuppa

T o be honest i have never laughed so much we have so many walks cutting off or staff booking excess that the managers are the ones getting stressed by it,the staff are taking meal breaks doing the job by the book. One practice that seems to be rubbing is that staff are booking excess and leaving mail behind we have more managers on delivery now than we have ever had.Staff have remembered that they need us more than we need them.

A lot of this is because the Walks are too big, too long, this was disguised by staff coming early, using their cars, cutting corners and its coming home to roost.

do the job right and the walks will need revision.

Deliveries are ridiculous now. It's managed one day at a time. Panic, bluster, bluff newcomers into staying out til dusk, line managers delivering what they can't cover, and if they can say to the DUM the office is clear, that's ok.

At ours the liners poo their pants if someone refuses to work over, they try all the usual tricks and lies, so our lot find it easier to book extended delivery overtime, keep on top of the work, get the money.

Now, the purge has started. Looks like the DUM has had his hand slapped for the amount of overtime booked. One lad was challenged over booking 45 minutes overtime instead of 40. Guess what effect this will have? "Not doing it, working to my time, you'll have to cover what I leave in". Liners panic. DOM has failures to report, erm cover up. Today's purge left 3 cages of mailsort undelivered. It won't be touched Saturday, and Monday is a short day. The overtime interrogation has put people off doing it. More failure.

All in all a vicious cycle that gives abysmal service to customers and demoralises concsientious employees.

But as long as :cfo gets his £3m a year, and the management underlings get their bonuses, that's all that matters.
Remember: Royal Mail 2008 isn't about service, it's not for customers, definitely not for workers, and certainly not something the government provides for its citizens, it exists for the benefit of its management only. Some of the lads thought I was a bit OTT when I said that in the past - they all agree with me now.

I used to do truck loads of extra work for the company but over the last year or two I feel ive been beaten into the ground and, quite frankly, treated like s**t.

My good will has completely gone after the last shafting (esp. pensions)...now I do the absolute bare minimum and no more.

There is one line to answer with when the managers start with what do you mean you cant finish your delivery, invite the manager to show you how it's done, tell him/her they are quite welcome to give you all the hints and knowledge they have for you to take on board, then see the manager run thought this guy who is covering as a manager was going to cry or run.

Indeed! They try to resist but how can they insist you do something they are incapable of doing or demonstrating?

You could drag any chav or crackhead off the street and tell them to say what can can be done - but if they can't show or do the job themselves?...

Oi, :cfo show me how to do my walk better. £3m a year? You must be the best postie ever. Or not.
